SECURITY light coming on???

Just curious if anyone knows why the SECURITY light may come on in the Message Center of my 02 Sierra, while driving. I dropped my brother off at the airport this morning, and blam, SECURITY. Not sure why, the doors where shut well, and nothing noticeable changed, it just came on. I have seen this before and it was brief, however now it is on all the time. Is this a little glitch or am I missing something?

I had this exact same problem with my 2000 Silverado, I took it back to the dealership a number of times untill they fixed the problem. I had them hook it up to their computer and run diagnostics on it untill finally they told me that there was a sensor or something behind the dash that was acting up. Whatever it was they finally found the problem, and have never had a problem since. Not sure if this helps you any but I would suggest you take it back to the dealership. the fix cost me nothing as it was still under warranty.

If SECURITY comes on while driving, it basically means the PASSLOCK system is busted and non-functional. In other words, it won't stop you from starting the engine but it won't stop someone else from stealing it either.

 

Since PASSLOCK relies upon a resistor in the ignition switch, it could easily be the resistor or contacts within the ignition switch that have gone or the PASSLOCK electronics box could have fried (I'd suspect the switch).
