odometer mileage

I am looking at a used 2000 1/2 ton 4wd to buy and after looking at it I am alittle suspicious of the mileage and wondered if anyone knows if the actual mileage on the odometer can be confirmed in the computer or the transmission somehow.

I'm not positive but I think the milage is kept on like 5 or 6 other places on your truck. In random computers somewhere. You can always run a carfax check on it also.
