Parking Brake Problem

I have a 2002 Silverado that has a 65000 mile. I know that is pretty excessive. Well my problem is the parking brakes have been worn away so bad that they have damages the in side of my brake rotors. I normally wouldn’t be thinking to much about it and replace them but. Yes there is a but. I haven’t used the parking brake that much on my truck. I have never left it engaged when driving and yet they wore away. I have to say that since I have had this truck I have used them 10 times tops. I was just wondering if any one has had this problem and what action was taken. What I mean by what action I mean did the factory or extended warranty covers them. I understand the Parking brakes will wear down but not if you don’t use the. Well I would appreciate any help or advice that can be given. Thanks.

Because it is considered a "wear" item, you wont be able to get it under any warranty that I know of.

And, unfortunately, I belive that GM probably wouldn't even consider your claim because you state thaat you only have used the p-brake 10 times. - I believe that the owner's manual will tell you to use it every time that you place the vehicle in Park.

Sorry I couldn't help out on this one. One good thing is that aftermarket has started producing the rear rotors, so you don't get porked with the outrageous $$$ that GM was asking for.

GM's original design for the nbs parking brake was faulty and could cause it to drag causing excessive wear if left unchecked. GM came out with an improved design replacement part set ... I proactively updated mine even though there was no sign of wear - I just did not want to worry about it. If you search this forum you will probably find more info.
