Air Conditioner Recirculate Button

In my wife's 2004 Yukon (which she seldom lets me drive). I have to manually reset the recirculate feature on the air conditioner every time I start the engine.

 

I am used to my truck. If I have the A/C on when I shut the engine off, it is on when I start it back up. In her Yuke....the A/C stays on....BUT you have to reach up to the dash and press the recirc button or it won't give you the full chill.

 

Anybody else dealt with this?

That's a pain in the rear...my mom's 2003 Eddie Bauer Expedition does it, as does my girlfriend's 2004 Toyota Camry.

 

Don't know how to fix it...but it defaults to not getting the coldest, strongest air and also blows out all the new car smell.

hmmm....Dunno...sometimes mine goes off on it's own....sometimes I know it goes off when I open the windows too

I rarely use that feature except when maybe it is in high 90's or over 100 outside.

i noticed this also in my 04 chevy but found out if you wait a minute it comes back on after you start it by it self

This is just the nature of the beast. I have a 94' that acts the exact same way.

With the GM vehicles, the recirculation does what it wants too. Its just the nature of the beast. (Had this conversation with a former GM tech on Friday)

Hey I was going to ask that guestion. Yeah, mine if you have it set to fresh some times it works and stays there. Occasionally it will turn to recirculate by itself (the recirculate light does not come on and the fresh air light stays on but you can hear the difference), stays on for a little while and will eventually switch back.

 

I've been trying to take note of when it happens. Usually if the cab is really hot like when you first start up and running it for a few seconds or other times when it is really hot outside it will switch.

 

Is there some sort of circuitry that tells the A/C to do this because it is not cooling down fast enough?

 

I thought i might have been the only one with this weird problem.

What I have noticed on my 2002, 1500 truck is that if I am in re-circ. but then set the location to either of the defrost settings, then the system will automatically kick out of re-circ. so as to bring in outside air. This is true no matter what the heat setting - that is, whether the air conditioning is on or not.

 

I think GM's logic for this is because if you choose a defrost setting they don't want humid inside air re-circulating over and over. They want to bring in outside air, which is presumed to be less humid, so as to get those windows de-frosted ASAP.

Yeah mine does that under defrost and that is normal.

 

If mine is set for A/C and vent with the fresh air selected, occasionally it will automatically change to re-circ for a bit then switch back to fresh. No lights change for fresh to re-circ to fresh when it does this, it just stays lit for fresh even though you can hear and feel the difference.

its normal, will switch back and forth depending on inside cab

temp. and out side temp. on real hot days it may cycle a couple

of times to cool cab down to your temp. settings as quick as possable
