Gas Gauge Problems

:D I have been to the dealer three times to get my gas gauge fixed.  It gets stuck at 1/4 to 1/2 of a tank, then goes directly to empty.  Is anyone else having this problem or something similar?  The dealer has checked the sensors and taken the dash apart twice without fixing it.  What could be wrong?  I want to be better informed before I go back for the fourth time.  Thank you!

It is common for the fuel sending unit to go on these trucks. Currently, my 2000 Sierra's fuel gauge is possessed.

It runs about $400-$500 to fix if you are out of warranty  :0

I had my gauge go in my S10.... It would do basically the same thing as yours. They had to drop the tank and replace sender unit/pump. It was free for me as I was still under warranty. That would seem to be  your problem to. Mine was sticking and stop working one day.

My TB is doing this now and it is annoying.  Dealer dropped the tank and checked all connections.  They did NOT replace anything though.  I get it back tonight, so we'll see if it was a 'bad connection' or not.

I am having the same problems with my 2001 S-10 Crew Cab LS.  The dealership has replaced the fuel sending unit and the sensors that are with it now 5 times in the last 9 months.  They have also replaced the insturment cluster 2 times.  I received the truck back yesterday and the service techs explained to me that there is a buffer on the fuel sending unit that only monitors the correct level of the gas in the tank after the vehicle has been driven 7 to 10 miles.  If u drive the truck and then put it in Nuetral the guage buffer will reset itself.  Mine went from 1/2 tank to below the empty mark in a matter of 1 mile.  I am currently pursuing a lemon law complaint against GM and the dealer where i bought it.  The truck is not even 1 year old yet and has been in the shop now 15 times.,

1992 S-10 gas gauge would only go to 1/4 tank (when full) .  It would start working when it hit less than 1/4 full and not always work.  Replaced everything possible.  Last resort changed the instrument cluster WHALLLLA it worked
