Question on Amp/Subwoofer/Power in GMC Envoy

How's it going folks? Nice forum you got here. I guess I can participate since I'm now a proud GMC owner ;)

Lots of good info here :D

Now I read a bunch of posts on alternaters/amps/power etc. and it seems like I'm ok. But I'm hoping to get some more specific comments/experience.

I have a 2002 GMC Envoy 4x4 6 cyl. It's fully loaded with pretty much every available option. I don't plan on doing more than what I already have.

I had an alarm installed. A 2 way Viper 791xv... I also had them install my old Amp/subwoofer box to the stock Bose stereo system. I used to have it in older Honda Accord and never had any problems.

The amp is a Rockford 800a2 and the box is a custom built sealed box with 2 12" Rockford DVCs. I think the amp puts out 1052 watts. But I could be mistaken. I can't find the manual and can't find any info on the Rockford website.

I also have a cap, a 1 farad cap.

It sounds really good, much better than when it was in the honda (probably more power and the open space).

So far I havent had any problems, no dimming. And like I said, that amp/box and alarm are the only devices that aren't stock.

Will this be a problem now or in the future? Meaning is this too much of a strain on the stock alt./battery. The installer recommended a Dry cell battery which is $179-$200. If it's worht it I don't mind paying the money...

Click here to see what I have installed.

I'm running a bit higher wattage than you with a 1 farad cap on a stock charging system as well.

It's been in there longer than a year without a single problem with alt, or battery. I'm just going to wait until one of them craps the bed to replace them.

the alarm should have little/no effect on the electrical system. they dont drain enough power to matter really, unless you're battery is dying.

but as for the 1000 watts of power, it'll give you a problem sooner or later. it's inevitable. a drycell would help, as would upgrading your charging system wires. the cap is going to help matters a little, but if you want to really see a difference add a 2nd battery to the mix. that puts less of a strain on your charging system than trying to keep that one big battery charged :D

or you could do like i do. just go with it and just have some extra money to replace what breaks. i ran almost 2000 watts rms in my fiance's grand am for a little over a year without a problem on her stock battery and altenator. (i had a 2nd battery with a 1 farad cap) but when the altenator went the battery did too, so it was a smooth $200 to replace the battery and put a higher amp altenator on there.
