More info is available for the upcoming VaraRam King Cobra induction. I should have pricing by Monday and the non-ramair version should be ready to ship in about 1-2 weeks. I'll have one for testing in one of my 8.1 trucks sometime next week.

A VR airbox that is over 100% efficient (compared to our best competitors 80% on a dyno and 60% under actual road loads)

The system will produce up to 2+ psi of pressure in the manifold at shift recovery producing stunning 0-60 mph improvements on every GM truck and SUV, putting the power where you can use it.

A water system featuring a drop away floor to drain any water that may inter the system (up to 2 gallons every 30 seconds)

Your choice of one of two air filters: the SS for everyday use and the Baja for serious offroading.( washable and reusable)

A quick and easy installation that uses existing bolt holes(10min cold air, 15 min ram air)

The King Cobra kits were designed from day one to be used daily to enhance vehicle performance beyond what a conventional cold air box can do, without sacrificing the durability or the value of the vehicle.

This has been accomplished by producing a true sealed Cold air system that uses a multiple venturi design to maximize overall airflow efficiency, no leaky boxiest that suck under hood hot air, no chopping ,cutting or custom computer tuning!

VaraRam guarantees that you will see at least a 1/2-to1 full second drop off of your 0-60 MPH times over factory stock no matter which GM truck or SUV you have or VR will buy the system back, but we are going even further, We guarantee that you will gain at least a full ½ second “OVER ANY OTHER” aftermarket air induction system or we will buy the unit back.

They chose a very conservative performance improvement figure that they knew ANY truck or SUV (whether V-6 or V-8) would see based on their test data from competitors products in real world conditions rather than a dyno. You will also see a fuel mileage improvement from the system; usually this is about 2-3mpg over factory stock. The heavier and slower the vehicle the stronger the gains EX: when towing a 5,000lb trailer with the same 2004 6.0 test mule we were seeing the 0-60mph times drop by 3-3.5 seconds (21.3-21.5 to 17.8-18.3 seconds) fuel mileage rose to 10mpg from 5-6mpg when towing.

Here are just some of the test numbers from several of VaraRam's test vehicles. All runs were made as direct before and after runs with NO computer re-learn time. All 0-60mph runs were made using a Vericom VC 2000 backed up by a PI Research onboard telemetry system to monitor MAP, airfuel ratio and overall vehicle performance.

2000GM truck 5.3 extended cab 4wd/2wd run in 2wd

Stock 0-60MPH 11.76-11.82 seconds over 3 runs

VR 0-60MPH 10.36-10.48 seconds over 3 runs

That’s a 1.4 second improvement!

2-3MPG improvement

2004GM truck 6.0 3/4ton extended cab longbed 2wd

Stock 0-60MPH 12.67-12.73 seconds over 3 runs

VR 0-60MPH 10.98-11.04 seconds over 3 runs

That’s a 1.6 second improvement!

+4 MPG over stock

2004 GM SS Silverado 6.0 4wd

Stock 0-60mph 6.82-7.10 seconds over 3 runs

VR 0-60mph 6.07-6.15 seconds over 3 runs

That?s a .7-1.0 second improvement!

+3MPG average

2000GM Truck 4.3V6, 2wd

Stock 0-60mph 8.1-8.3 seconds over 3 runs

VR 0-60mph 7.3-7.5 seconds over 3runs

That?s a .6-1.0 second improvement!

+2-3MPG average

We don't have any new info for the Ram Air version yet. This is a quick rundown for the people that haven't seen it yet.

The best advantage of a true ram air system lies in the power and torque that can be produced under the power curve. The truck and SUV engines normally drop 1 to 2 psi in the manifold during shift recovery and general acceleration. This is where the King Cobra really strikes! In this area you can see another 10-18 hp and 12-20 ft.lbs. of Torque on top of the cold air system itself!

This airbox features a specialized multiple venturi system that enables the box to maintain an industry leading 100%+ efficiency. The unit brings in cold outside air through the 1st venturi system, at this point the air velocity is increased while turbulence is also reduced, this unit then recovers pressure at the air filter maximizing total air pressure or dynamic pressure at the filter. Manipulating the air this way aids in reducing unwanted air turbulence that would normally lead to losses in overall efficiency. The system features a specialized plenum bolume behind the filter that has an angle specific tulip shaped rear velocity stack to accelerate the airflow through the factory tube in a controlled manner, helping to improving off idle throttle response and torque while reducing unwanted air turbulence through the Mass airflow meter. The filter we use is a triple layer Baja filter that features a peel away ?wrap? load up zone for heavy debris and dust. We then use two different main filter medias to enhance overall air filtration. This filter will flow over 1000CFM.

We're currently accepting pre-orders to provide you with one of the first systems that become available! Orders can be placed online or by calling 1-877-482-9763.

Those numbers are supposed to be from the standard (non-ram) cold air intake? That would be remarkable, but to be blunt they seem awfully optimistic to me. I'd love to hear your report once you get your hands on one of those babies though, but do you have any vehicles that are even close to stock for testing? Seems like most of your rigs have been heavily modified, so that might not give a terribly accurate assessment of what their intake can really do.

If you want someone to do a bit of testing I might be interested (a 10 minute install would be so easy that I wouldn't even have a chance to finish my beer! :banghead:). Except for the Westers PCM, which really didn't help my truck all that much (so it's still pretty close to stock essentially), I haven't made any performance mods. Might be a good test mule.

Stock? What is that? :banghead: VaraRam has tested this system on a number of different trucks. I'd be replacing the Volant system with this one to see what it will do for power and fuel economy. Even a 1-2 MPG increase will be huge for me. The big blocks get real thirsty! It will be interesting to see what the ram air version does on my Suburban.

:banghead: are you serious? That would be nuts. Also, seeing drops of over 1.5 seconds in the 0-60 on 6.0L HD trucks? Thats really impressive. I didnt see any info regarding the 8.1L trucks though. Got any numbers for them? Right off the bat, i have to agree with Jim Wilson, seems almost to good to be true. I hope they are not trying to inflate sales with phony stories, but they are however offering money back gaurantee's........so who knows? I will be following these very closely, and look forward to some real "on the street" testing soon.

Wonder if the guarantee is for mileage too. If so, it might be worth considering as an upgrade, because the price of gas is KILLING me... :banghead:

I was surprised by the numbers when I received the rundown for this :banghead: They guarantee the 0-60 improvement but I don't believe they will do that with the mileage. I haven't heard of any in depth testing for this on an 8.1. I'm going to be going by seat of the pants and also see what the mileage increase is. I was going to say that my butt is calibrated for performance but that wouldn't have sounded right :D

Sign me up as a test guinea pig and give me one for free to test in the REAL world.

I have a hard time believing that my 8.1L will go from 9.5mpg in town to 11mpg just like that.

These numbers are for the standard induction. They don't have any for the full system yet. We're currently taking orders for this system. Part numbers and pricing are -

VR6 King Cobra induction $239.99

VR5 King Cobra ram air induction (full system) $339.99

We should have the non ram air version here by the end of next week. These systems are selling fast!

    • Looking for advice from this group. Took my flawless 2020 6.2 TB to an unnamed shop for routine rear brakes and oil change. Tech forgot to put oil back in after the full service and needles to say, destroyed my engine.  It’s all on their shop video so they are responsible.   I had my Chevy dealer do the analysis and they confirmed its compromised and said engine replacement. The manager said they only get GM reman engines from GM with full 3 yr warranty and the one they would put in is not same as what’s they are swapping out on 21-25 for recall.    I am looking for advice why that would be a different engine because obviously I had the good 6.2 year and replacing it has my concerns with that recall for 21-15   Also what’s the pros and cons of accepting the engine swap vs telling the shop that bricked the truck to pay up so I buy a new truck. I’m concerned about stigma resale eventually if I just decide to get rid of it after the swap or other issues showing up after the swap out.
    • Just looked up my records.  I've never gone over 5000 miles between oil changes.  At 46K miles, I have 10 oil changes.  I hope that will help.  I also installed the disabler last year.  I've still had a few times when it didn't seem to engage (which I can tell because the start stop feature kicks in), but for the most part, I think it's working.  For some reason, GM did not include the number of cylinders running in the information screen like I had on other models.  In my Cadillac, it shows me when it's running on 4 cylinders on the fuel milage screen.  I can't find that on my '21 Denali.
    • you might read through the info on gmupfitter.com for your truck, to find a good power source.
    • Melling I believe is/was the OEM on the lifters who explored this problem some years ago. The white paper they generated on the topic indicated two items of note when I read it. 1.) They only fail on the switch. Prevent the switch, prevent the failure. 2.) The majority fail due to deposits messing up the timing of that switch. Anyway that's what I got from it.    Mine have always been active, 195K+ now, and my oil maintenance is surgically clean.    Of course this assumes good parts. That is no heat treat issue or machining flaws. I get comfortable that these issues are in the rearview mirror by about 30K. IMHO naturally.
    • Yes, the key seems to be with the half tons that if it has the Z71, then it definitely has the two speed. What got me was that the two speed AND the lower geared towing package option could not be chosen together the last few years unless it was mated up to the 6.2. Want the 3.0 duramax and 3.73 tow gears ... nope, can't get the two speed transfer case ( neighbor son realized that after he had bought his used 3.0 half ton .. where the frick is the low range ? ! ).    I am still unsure which truck series, the half ton or the HD truck that the original poster is referring to for sure other than yes his question is in the HD section of this forum but that doesn't guarantee the question got asked in the right section.
