transfer case problem

I have a 1986 chevy 1/2 ton 4X4. runs and shifts without any problems in 4 wheel high or low. but wont in two wheel drive. if i start out in 4 wheel drive high and shift into 2 wheel it runs and shift fine untill i let off the gas pedal. the transfer case goes into neutral and i have to start over in four wheel drive. I installed a rebuilt transfer case today . and same problem !!!!!!!!!! ANY HELP WITH THIS ? about to give up and sell the truck

You need to double check linkage adjustments. I feel you problem lie there and never was in tranfer case to being with. The only way this possible is for the transfer cas to be shifted in neutral and the 2hi postion is right next to neutral in the gate. correctly adjust linkage and problem should go away.
