Be advised, if you put 285's on it and take it dealer with them on and drivetrain problems (Allison tranny) they can void warranty. Is it worth it?

The tires should fit with minimal adjustment (if any) when mounted on the factory rims. Many people have done this. As stated though the dealer may not be to happy about it from a warranty stand point. This varies from dealer to dealer though. As far as the dealer adjusting for the 285 tires, from what I have heard they cannot do anything large than a 265. An aftermarket tuner can adjust for the tire size and shift points though... :bs:

The dealer should not give you a hassle about a 265 tire considering it is a factory standard for the new 3500SRW and the 1500 Z71's have had them for a long time. There are many people that are running larger tires with the D/A combo without any problems. Again, your best bet if you are worried about your warranty is to talk to your dealer. If they are alright with it then you should be good to go. Some dealers in my are sell new truck with lifts and larger tires. So it really varies dealer to dealer...

lol void what warranty?

Just buy another set of factory wheels off ebay, and have the ORIGINAL tires mounted on them, when it goes into the dealer for drivetrain work, swap the tires. Use that one dealer for drivetrain work, and another for everything else ;)

I have a 2004 GMC 2500 HD 4x4 Regular cab with the 8.1/Allison. I put 285/70/17 BFG AT's on aftermarket rims. I used 17's because I had the BFG's on my 2002 Escalade which I traded in on my GMC. The Escalade came standard with 265/70/17's and the 285's actually fit better on it.

I had to trim the inside corner of the front bumper off and trip the wheel well trim on the front and zip tie the back of the wheel well trim on each side. All that took about 15 minutes and they fit fine. Done with a little bit of care and it will not be noticeable.

I didn't notice any power loss or any MPG loss. Although it only gets 11mpg on a good day with a tail wind.

Although my speedometer is off by 0 mph at 30 and reads low by 6 mph at 70. So when the speedo reads 70 I am actually going 76. That was checked with a radar unit. Just keep that in mind.

I had my tires put on by Discount Tire and they trimmed my front bumper and wheel wells for me and did a good job.

Good luck. :banghead:
