CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THE HD CLUSTER (GAS VERSION) WITH THE TRANS TEMP. GAUGE WILL WORK IN MY '04 1500 5.3 AND IF SO ARE ANY MODS. REQD.

I WORK IN A CHEVY DEALER BUT CAN'T GET A STRAIGHT ANSWER BECAUSE IT OF COURSE "DIDN'T COME THAT WAY"!!,I'VE READ THAT IT SHOULD BE A DIRECT PLUG-IN AND THE TEMP.GAUGE WILL WORK, BUT I NEED TO HEAR FROM SOMEONE WHOS DONE IT,THANKS ALOT! RICH.

I have not done it myself but I know quite a few here have. Direct plug in, the trans temp guage will work. The only thing is your mileage will not transfer. You either have to pay a speedo shop to do it, or put the little sticker in your door jamb thats states the mileage when the cluster was changed.

I did that exact swap with my 2001 Silverado. It's a nice, easy upgrade. The temp guage is functional and looks alot better than the blank spot that's there on the stock cluster.

I even sold the old guage cluster on Ebay for $110! Go for it!

If anyone is interested, I have a 2003 full-body Z71 cluster available with the white Silverado SS face plating, and the transmission temperature gauge. It has about 23800 miles on it. Perfect for anyone wanting the transmission temperature gauge, white facing, and are working upwards toward the 23 - 24k mile mark on their odometer.

It does NOT support the extra features of the Driver Information Center (Miles Per Gallon, Business, Personal mileage, etc.) without being flashed by a knowledgeable dealer.

Its history is that it came from my truck, I added the SS white overlay and the transmission temp gauge. It works perfectly, other than the optional Drivers Information Center features.

$100.00 and a guess of $15.00 for shipping will get it to you.

I can take pictures, if desired, but guess what? It will look JUST LIKE all the other pictures of SS clusters. grinnn

Can the temp guage be purchased separately and added to the stock 1500 cluster? And if so, are there any necessary wiring or PCM modifications?

No modifications to PCMs, nada. Just plug in and go. BUT................

The modification involves soldering the gauge (called a motor, and includes a needle) to the cluster's circuit board. The overlay (the part that has the lettering) is part of an overlay replacement for the entire cluster. That's the big bucks. Typically at least $100.00. In other words, you just need to add the temp motor, but the overlay for it involves replacing your existing overlay.

Thanks for the info. Think I'll try to save some jack and get a Denali one from JP Customs, quick and easy and includes the 120mph speedo.

JP Customs is a good source. Shame that my cluster (for '03 trucks) is the wrong year for your truck, if I'm reading your signature correctly. Would save you a couple $100.00.

So the 03 and 04 clusters are different?

I ordered the Trans temp gauge from stylin concepts about 4 weeks ago. It's been on backorder. The last I heard was it might ship this week sometime. Looks like it is a little involved to put it in, you have to add an IC chip to the dash cluster and the gauge of course. I think removing and replacing the overlay and needles will be the worst part. I think I can do it though.

Once you get it, let us know how it goes. I'm definately interested.
