Taking the 02 Z71 in for all the "little stuff" before the warrinty runs out. Here are a couple of things I'm asking for...remember this is my last chance so let me know if I am missing anything.

 

1. Steering shaft fix

2. CSK

3. Daytime driving lights are starting to cloud

4. Clunk in driveline at slow speed

5. Drivers side seat showing premature wear on seam

 

Please let me know if there is anything else I should mention...it goes in to the shop tomorrow. :banghead:

Check the cables that hold your tailgate. I am at 40,000+ on my '02 Z71 and I had one break last week. They are not that expensive ($15/piece), but that is $15 not coming out of your pocket.

There's no TSB for front bumper rusting for the 02 trucks - so I hope your front bumper isn't rusting away.

 

Can't think of much else though. Hope they get it all repaired. The only thing you'll get for CSK is a 100,000 mile warranty but that's better than nothing.

there is a new PCV valve for oil consumtion issues.

 

The only reason ive taken in my 02 for service was the 1-2 shift shudder when hot. They re-wired the alternator to fix per a TSB

PCV valve can effect oil consumption eh? I changed my PCV valve about a year ago or so I wanna say. How long should I go before I change it again?

Did you install the spring and plunger style PCV or the fixed orifice? (The plunger style will rattle when shaken, the fixed orifice is empty with a tiny hole at the bottom). The fixed orifice is the new style....oh yea, it still sucks oil though.

 

With the old style PCV, I like to change them every 15K, although you can go 24 to 30K, and if you're really broke, you can actually take it out and clean it. For 2 to 3 bucks it can't hurt to replace it though.

my 99 clunks at low speeds sometimes... i can't remember what the service manager said it was-- but it wasn't suppose to effect it and it was a $300 fix.. my truck is long out of warranty.

Mine has a shutter when hot from 1-2. What did the rewire? The alternator? I thought it had something to do with an actuator.

Yup....Tailgate cables aren't a warranty item...They are a recall. That means even those of us without warranty get new ones.

Yup....Tailgate cables aren't a warranty item...They are a recall. That means even those of us without warranty get new ones.

The tailgate cable recall is not out yet,they (GM) are only changing them for free if your cables are broken,the recall is not supposed to be out until sometime in the fall.

And get this,for some strange reason, at least for now, it will not include the '99 model year! I asked our GM service rep. why and he had no good answer other than to say that GM's past warranty records don't show suffient cause to recall the '99's. HUH, it seems that thats all were selling new cables to is customers that have '99's here at our dealership so go figure!

I believe that it's actually a recall. At least that's what my letter from GM called it.

 

Since I am waaay out of warranty and they know it, I would assume that if it wasn't a recall...I wouldn't have gotten a letter.

 

It goes on to state that they are fresh out of new cables, and I will receive another letter when it is time to go pick up my new cables...That...And not to stand, sit, or put any weight on my tailgate until that time. :banghead:

what is it?

Probably the nickel plated slip yoke to correct the driveline clunk.

      You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.

      2026 6.6 L5P oil cooler leaking oil at 4,000 miles

      New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?

      So, GMCustomerService:  Judging by the Update History pictured above, is this truck missing any updates that it actually needs. If it's just for the infotainment system, the radio is working fine and no trouble with SeriusXM. and Android Auto is working fine wirelessly with my phone. Some months ago, an update notice was sent to my truck. I approved the update and it finished saying that the update was successful, but it seems that whatever that update was, it didn't actually get installed - at least not if I'm to go by the Update History shown above.   So, again, are there any updates that this truck really should have? I've checked with my dealer but they're reluctant or commit to anything and if I want them to check, they require a $200.00 fee just to check it out and then I'd have to pay for the actual update(s).    Ignorance is bliss, and if none of the updates goes to fixing any mechanical discrepancies, I'll just leave things as is.
