I finally found a good site for GM trucks.  Anyway, my chevy truck obsession started back in april when I bought my 94 2wd sb.(Cheyenne Version)  This has been an odd truck because it's only 1 step above a work truck, but was ordered with some cool options, ie: 5.7, a/c, full gages, tilt wheel,cruise, towing pkg... BUT had all the "uglies", ie: black bumbers, NASTY plastic grille, worn out rubber floor, bouncy standard bench seat, "Chevrolet" decal letters on the tailgate.  So it began.  I've been making little mods and just getting into it.  So far I've added carpet and silverado bench seat to the interior, put on a custom exhaust, chrome outside mirrors, chrome bumbers (used), removed the "Chevrolet" decals from the tailgate, ordered a grille upgrade kit (should arrive friday), tonneau cover, outlaw aluminum wheels, B&M shift plus, and so on.  Soooo... you guys will see alot of me asking alot of questions.  The truck has 130K miles but runs REALLY good and is very sound.  This winter I want to swap the engine for a vortec with Edelbrock fuel injection.  I'm hoping someone here has done this already.  Sorry for the long intro., but it's exciting to find a good site that I actually want to post on.

Welcome to the site!! Sound like you already put alot of work into your truck. It seems like you really appreciate your vehicle, like alot of us do here. I personally don't know much about the older trucks, but I'm sure others will. Have a good time and post often. :)

Welcome to the forum.  Sounds like you have a good project truck and you've already done quite a bit.  You may know already, but Stylin Concepts has lots of good stuff for those year trucks.  I had a '91 that I did some stuff to.  Check it out if you like and maybe it will give you some ideas too.  http://tommy3z71.homestead.com/91_chevy.html

Alright Mountaineer!  I was wondering about those SS embems on your 91 and of course you just had to give the link to Stylin Concepts.  Well... I just had to have 'em!!!

Chris, welcome-

 I also have the Cheyenne trim in my '98, although it's 2 bucket seats and console away from a Silverado trim now.  Hate the plastic grill too, but it's hidden behind the brushguard.  Haven't found any decals to exchange the factory decals with yet or decided if I go with none.  Curious, did your new bench seat come from a dealer or junkyard?  I miss the console and seats with arms, but the bench seat sure is roomy!

 Hope you find like I did, sometimes it's more fun to start plain and add exactly what you want when time and money allow-

I was actually just looking for a chrome rear bumper.  The best price I found for new was ?.00.  So I figured I would try to save money at a junk yard.  What a Joke!  They all wanted ?-? for what they termed as "not exactly perfect".  The last place I called (just before giving up) was a place that was advertised for towing.  They said that they had three, but all had dings, but I should at least come down and take a look.  He said if I took one, it would cost ?.00.  I figured for that kind of money, I should at least go look.  When I got there, they had 2 still on trucks, and 1 one on a rack.  The one on the rack was in great shape, but the top pad was rough.  They let me swap pads from another and I was all set.  Then I noticed the seat in one of the trucks.  Other than being filthy, it was in good shape.  So, fifteen minutes later (and a whole lot of scrubbin' later) the seat was in my truck.  Then of course, I noticed the chrome mirrors.  Had to have'm.  Although I'm not crazy about the appearence of the older style mirrors, I like them better because they're mounted higher and BIGGER.  So then it was off with the crusty black ones, and on with the chrome.  Anyways, ?.00 and some sweaty labor later, I made some serious and fast upgrades.

Welcome Chris.  Heck.....I'm a newbie too so can't talk too much.  You couldn't have picked a better home with lots of good info and the occasional good humor ribbing.  Monday night chat session was a blast...  thanks all.

      2026 6.6 L5P oil cooler leaking oil at 4,000 miles

      New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?

      Seems to be Missing a lot of Updates

      So, GMCustomerService:  Judging by the Update History pictured above, is this truck missing any updates that it actually needs. If it's just for the infotainment system, the radio is working fine and no trouble with SeriusXM. and Android Auto is working fine wirelessly with my phone. Some months ago, an update notice was sent to my truck. I approved the update and it finished saying that the update was successful, but it seems that whatever that update was, it didn't actually get installed - at least not if I'm to go by the Update History shown above.   So, again, are there any updates that this truck really should have? I've checked with my dealer but they're reluctant or commit to anything and if I want them to check, they require a $200.00 fee just to check it out and then I'd have to pay for the actual update(s).    Ignorance is bliss, and if none of the updates goes to fixing any mechanical discrepancies, I'll just leave things as is.

      Hey everyone, I recently had an issue with my 07 2500HD GMT900. My DRL’s stay on at all times. Right front turn and right mirror turn signal indicator stay on solid at all times. By “at all times” I mean the only way to make them go off is disconnecting the battery. I tore the headlight assemblies out, tried disconnecting the harnesses to eliminate bad wiring at the harness, I unplugged the headlight switch, no change and the mirror turn signal still stayed on. My first thoughts were : Bad bulb and/or socket somewhere, under hood fuse panel bad, bcm bad, tail light or trailer wiring problem, or some random short to power in the harness.  Possibly a bad ground but unlikely. I had a big clue in the fuse panel, it had a burnt smell. I started pulling every fuse that had to do with DRL or right turn/park lamp. Nothing made the right directional turn off but pulling the DRL2 fuse made the DRL’s go out.  After studying wiring diagrams, I found that both problems had that fuse panel in common, the bcm also controls both problems but knowing the fuse panel had a burnt smell I removed and disassembled the fuse panel and found a little corrosion on the printed circuit board.  I ordered a new fuse panel from Amazon for like $260. When it arrived I installed it, and put everything back together, the problem was fixed. I figured the fuse panel needed to be replaced anyway so that was a logical place to start. Hopefully this story helps someone in the future. Regretfully I didn’t scan for codes before I did everything.

      That stinks. I’m sitting on the side of the road right now with the same issue. Never had an issue before taking it in for the ground strap recall. Now I’m outside of warranty and they’ll probably want $200 just to diagnose what they already “fixed”.
