Steering column noise

My 99 k1500 is going in monday for the seatbelt and brake line recalls. It has a rattle in the area of the steering column and I remember someone mentioning a TSB about this. Can anyone help me out with info on this.

I was going to post the 'crackeregg' TSB website for this fellow, but when I went to it, it comes up as a bad url.  Does anyone know if the site has moved or has been otherwise closed down??

I thought I put the TSB's I had done on my thread down there, but I guess not :stupid:

00-02-35-003 is the one for the steering column, I think. I'd go out to NHTSA's website, though, to confirm!

NHTSA just had e few safety items. Alldata had descriptions of all TSB's but you have to pay $24.95 for the whole story. I was surprised at how many TSB's are on the '99.

There are 2 TSB's for the steering column. They're both for the same symptom : Clunking noise under the hood that can be felt in the steering wheel. First Chevy came out with TSB # 00-02-35-003. This calls for the replacement of the upper intermediate steering shaft assembly with a newly designed upper intermediate steering shaft assembly Part# 26085548. After this they came out with TSB 00-02-35-003A which relaced 00-02-35-003. This TSB wants you to lubricate the upper intermediate shaft instead of replacing it. The lubrication kit is Part# 26098419 (Chevy wants to save $$ ) Hope the info will help you.

I just took them the TSB number that pertained to replacing the steering shaft, and that's what they did. Hopefully, you can do the same thing and just have them replace it, instead of lubing it.

I thought the dealer might give me some static so I wanted the TSB in hand. They didn't even test for the noise but the latest TSB says specifically not to replace the intermediate shaft anymore but to use a special grease kit. That's what they did so we'll see. He flushed the Autotrac and put the blue synthetic in and it feels better already. He proved to me that the rattle in the headliner toward the mirror was caused by the bug shield. Yep. All in all, they did good.
