Campers and XM

With the factory XM antennas on the cab roof what are people doing when they have the cabover campers on their trucks?? Doesn't this block the signal? Where are some other mounting options?

Thanks

I am not sure if it would affect it or not. I can go under an overpass and it will cut out everytime yet I am under it for less than a second. Sometime trees affect it. Other times, I am crossing over brides (lower deck) or going through tunnels and it doesn't skip a beat. I think it is something you'd just have to try.

That antenna can be mounted nearly anywhere. On the dash close to the windshield glass might work. On top of the camper would be fine. I even mounted my antenna on the back glass shelf on my Grand Am and it worked fine.

I think if I had a truck with an over cab camper, I would first try the dash by the glass, and then if that didn't work, I would remount the satellite receiver somewhere in the camper, run the antenna and antenna cable to the camper's roof and mount. I would purchase an extension line for the IP cable (the cable that hooks up to your radio), and snake that from the camper to the radio.

Not much to doing this, just time-consuming. But, oh what a wonderful project it would be!

I think the signal would be lost if covered by a camper. I know if you cover the antenna with your hand it will loose signal. XM signal is said to only pass through glass, fiberglass, plastic, while blocked by metal, wood, cement. for more info or help check out www.xmfan.com
