I dunno where I've been, but what's the story with this car? Is it GM's answer to the neon? I went to the website and it comes with a boost guage....

I've heard from several sources that it's the replacement for the Cavalier in 2005.

The Supercharged SS is the top-end model. With a 2.0L 205hp/200tq supercharged ECOTEC Inline-4, it's designed to compete with Dodge's Neon SRT-4 and such imports as Mazda's RX-8, Toyota's Celica, Nissan's 350Z, and Honda's Civic Si and Acura RSX.

Edit: And it's supposed to be on the same design platform (Delta) as the Pontiac Sunfire, which will be re-designed for '05, and the Saturn Ion Red Line. The Cobalt SS and Ion Red Line are expected to be in direct competition with each other as the power outputs for both will be nearly the same.

the Red Line and The cobalt Supercharged SS are pathetically slow for their power out puts. I think the Redline gets' to 60 in around 7.2 seconds. These thing must have horrible drivetrain losses

Cause if i remember, If GM went with something big like a bigger supercharger that would cause it to use gas or something, so they went with a smaller verison of the supercharger. Leave it to the aftermarket goods to make that car fast.

I had a thought.....Now if I take my non supercharged engine and throw a SC on it, they stealership will get mad, and not cover my warrenty....but it I take a car like the "Cobaly" that has a SC on it, and just make it "perform" better...will they still not honor my warranty.

BTW....IMHO I think the name Cobalt sucks

It all depends on the dealership. Some will try to void it for a k&n filter others will let things slide. Unless you have an 03-04 Cobra I doubt they are going to messure the SC pulley size to make sure it's stock.

I had a company try to void my warranty on my old WS6 because I put a cat-back exhaust on it, when it needed a new tranny because a rear main seal bolt came out and ended up braking the bell housing.

If you are a regular customer at a dealership (get your oil changed there), which I'm sure very few people here are, you are more likely to get the dealership to let aftermarket parts slide as far as warranty goes. If you never bring your vehicle in except for warranty work when something is wrong and you have a few aftermarket parts on it they will most likely void it unless those parts have nothing to do with whats wrong. Dealerships LOVE customer pay.

I'm tired hope some of that makes sense.

The Cobalt name does not suck for which we are trying to establish ricer's as some people may call them, to perform and out do the rest of the competition, if you look at it there's whole bunch of manufactures that are able to produce a single car and give it a special name like we did with the all new Chevy Cobalt some more bizzare and others hard to pronounce such as imports and what not.

LOL...sorry I had never though about it in context......

Ricer 1: Dude that cars fast....whatchya got in that thing?

Ricer 2: Oh man....it's a supercharged Cobalt.

Ricer 1: You got Nooooooooossssssssss?

Ricer 2: No way man...the spoiler is enough.

Sorry....my poor attempt at early morning humor. I appologize and it will never happen again

I think the best "made to be riced" car is the Hynduai Tiburon(or however you spell it)

It's cheap, performs well, and looks decent, with a HUGE aftermarket following. And it's bigger than a civic, and I've heard it's a very well-built car, an oxymoron considering it's Korean(yes, I know in 5 years Korean cars will be on par with US cars)

And we have a winner. This car will replace the Cavalier, because it will be going down the same assembly line the Cavalier used to.....

The new Cobalt will be built in the Cavalier Plant like Kansas Kid said. That plant is about 45 miles from where I live. It is located in Lordstown OH.
