shock questions...

the eldlebrock/ blisten debate on the other post and it made me wonder if it's getting on towards time to do mine....

how long "should" a set of shocks last??? I've had to replace a set once before on a previous truck, but i can't remember what kind of miles it had.  my truck has approx 60k on it.  it's been almost all street driving, but has been abused from time to time (both on-road and off).

i get the shakes and shimmies whenever i hold speed above 55 mph.  I've had it balanced and rotated and does the same thing right away... been thinking it might be shocks.

pardon the rambling...

thoughts??  comments??  snide remarks??

At 60K you might want to consider some new shocks.  New shocks are like new tires,  it makes it seem like you are driving a new truck!!!

I've always heard the rule of thumb is 60K and that's about all I've gotten out any set on pickups.  You never realize you neeed'em until you get new ones--not just over bumps and dips  but corners and stops, too.

I never could get two bounces out of pickups on the "manual bounce tests" where you put your knee on the bumper or stand on the tailgate, etc. b/c I'm a skinny boy.  So I don't put much stock in that test.
