what do u guys think of the quadrasteer sierra denali for 2002?  do u think it would be worth the cost??  would it serve that much of a purpose?  i think it's a gimmick, but it might have potential.

GM is using a Dana 60 rear axle. Truck trends has a good write up on it.

I don't think I would buy it (too expensive) but I can see it being nice for backing up a trailer.

If it was on something other than the Denali, I probably would opt for the option.  Not that I go off-raoding as much as I could, it would look pretty cool to manuever like a smaller rig.

Nope, That is why I am not trading my Z71 for a Sierra Denali. Since it is the standard on it. I ussually keep my vehicales for along time. I think it will be too expensive to fix and maintain once it gets old.

Honda tried that option on Preludes for a couple of years and abandoned it. I know technology is better now, but it doesn't seem like a good idea to me. From a usefulness standpoint, it's a great idea, that needs to be more controlable by the driver. Think it would take some getting used to from a driving/panic situation standpoint.

How exactly does it work?  Can you select it on/off/auto?  Is it only at slower speeds or in first and reverse gear?  Think of all the extra grease zerks there will be!!  Think of the extra wear on the tires (turning torque).

It would be neat to aim the mud you are throwing though.  :biggrin:  Just make sure you can get out of the mud so the PO people don't catch you.

i don't think i would get it.  the denali is a ?,000 + truck and i simply cannot afford a vehicle like that, especially with the abuse my vehicles get. nother reason is i don't think that would work with 20"to 22" wheels, if i got a truck that cost that much it would become a show truck.  also it can be a pain to maintain, so id go wit out it.

I don't think I'd get it.  I'm not much for buying toys for the sake of having toys.  To date I've been able to wheel around pretty much everything I've had to drive with just the front wheels switching directions.  I forget how much the option was going to cost, three or four grand I think.  For that three to four grand I'll upgrade engines instead.

I am waiting on it. That is the only reason I have not ordered a 2002. It will be on the half-tons early next year. I will wait until the 2003's come out. I really believe the people who drive it will not be without it. It will have a larger, heavier axle and with a larger capacity than the non-Quadrasteer trucks.  It is not the same system as what Honda or the Stealth had. Small cars with plenty of manueverability did not show the benefits as well as full-sized trucks and SUV will.

If you have EVER driven a large piece of Machinery (Tilly the crash crane aboard USS Eisenhower) that has 4 wheel steering capability you will appreciate the additional manueverability for tight quarters.  At first it will be a novelty thing to get used to...in fact with 4 wheel steering you may actually CAUSE an accident until you get the hang of it.

As I recall  the prelude steering system turned the rear wheels the same direction as the front wheels until you hit 20 degrees of steering.  Beyond 20 degrees they switched and went the other way.  This meant that in a gradual curve the car would really hug the road, but in an all out lock to lock parking lot job...they would really swing your ass end around for you.
