A/C pump makeing noise

My pump is making a chattering noise and it's getting worse. Do you think it's a bearing or does the complete pump need replacment???

Is it for sure the pump or could it be the belt idler wheel located just beneath the pump? I have replaced a couple of the wheels for around $7, stops the squeeling right up. check the cheap stuff first...

I replaced the idler last year. I know its the pump because the noise goes away when you turn the heater switch off.

If you can catch the compressor and replace it before it goes out it will be much less expensive to do than if you replace it after it goes out. Once the compressor goes out you have to have all your lines flushed, replace the condensor, evaporator, and several other parts becuase when the compressor crashes it dumps a whole bunch of crap into the system that destroys the system. Clattering means it is going. Replace it now.
