okay guys have 04 d/a cc 4x4 what kind of oil and filer

do you use on this beast is ams oil good choice what about

filter.did you buy on line or where thanks for help

If your going to stick to oil changes every 3k then regular Shell rotella 15w-40 is a good oil as well as mobil diesel oils. Then just stick to the stock AC filter for the truck. If you want to extend the oil changes out, synthetic would be a better choice.

 

AMSOIL is a good oil. Their 15.w-40 AME-QT oil is their popular oil. It runs $5.20 a quart, or $20.50 for a gallon. That is all retail. If you became a preffered customer, it is like joining Sam's club, you pay $20 a year and get everything at wholesale. So that quart is now $4.00 and the gallon goes down to $15.75.

 

AMSOIL's filters are really good quality. I don't have the price list in front of me at the moment. Baldwin and Hastings and Wix are good as well.

 

You can also use Delvac 1 oil. It is made by Mobil and is a good synthetic and there are tons that love it too. That you can find at most truck stops.

The benefits out of synthetic can be better mileage, and easier starts in colder weather as well as better protection in really hot weather. Less wear and tear on the starter and battery since is starts eaisier in the cold.

In my 03 DMax I am going to use the Mobil1 Truck/SUV stuff (rebadged Delvac1) and a Baldwin oil filter (I've read they are the ones that make them for Amsoil). I was debating between the Amsoil 15w40 and the Mobil1 Truck/SUV and went with the Mobil for the fall/winter, in the spring I may switch to the Amsoil stuff..

I switched to Amsoil a year ago and really liked it. That was until my engine ate 4 qts of it in three months. I then switched to Mobil One and it has been fine. I will keep running Mobile and keep an eye on it and then switch back to amsoil to see if it happens again. The funny part is, it happened in my wife's car also. It used 2 qts in a three month time span. I am still using the filters. On all the sites that I have seen do independant studies of filters they were always in the top. DO NOT USE FRAM! They were the one filter that failed on all the different tests. The amsoil was really nice in the -30 F temps this winter. I did notice however that the GM 6.0 engine slap/knock was worse with the amsoil in the summer than with the mobile one. Has anyone tried the Lucas oil additive? Well that's just my two cents worth.

Which Amsoil were you using when you had those problems? The one I'd probably use is the 15w40 diesel one.
