What is the mixture to remove water spots from the windows...50-50 white vinegar and distilled water ? Is it safe to use on painted surfaces ?

i've tried the vinegar and water thing and it didn't work for me. there's something called "hard water spot remover" it works like a charm. you should be able to get it at your local glass shop. i paid $20 for a bottle of it, but i've done about 5 vehicles with it. it takes a little elbow, but if you put too much elbow it'll leave fine swirls in your glass. but it's worth the effort. if you've got an orbital buffer it makes the job alot easier. and after you get the water spots off coat the window with rain-x.

 

i dont think the vinegar and water will hurt painted surfaces, but the hard water spot remover will leave some pretty harsh swirls on the paint if you get it on the paint. it's pretty abrasive stuff.

I've had great results with Zaino Z-12 (or whatever their glass cleaner is called ). Afterwards clean up the residue with some Stoners Invisible Glass and coffee filters (or microfiber towels). With this method I get windows so clean that they bead water like I coated them with Rain-x

For windows, I use 0000 steel wool and lightly rub a piece on the glass while running a stream of water over the steel wool. Takes the water spots off no matter how long they have been there. Follow up with Rain-X.

 

Water spotting on the finish is best removed with a polish. Use Dawn dishwashing soap to remove all the old wax and then use a clay bar to take any junk off the paint surface. I use Griot's Garage Machine Polish 3 with the Porter Cable DA polisher and a foam pad. The paint shines like new afterward. Follow with a good wax.

Go get a 'McGuires' claybar kit. It comes with the claybar, lubricant, and liquid wax. Works great! I've even used it to remove spraypaint overspray. Doesn't hurt the paint at all. Oh, to answer your question, vinegar won't hurt paint either. Just water it down. 50/50 works.

i always wondered how the salesman got that showroom shine on old car windows.well, they told me. they use BON-AMI.you can get it at any grocery store.it will not scratch but dont rub hard anyhow. i use it all the time. what a shine you get. let me know how you make out. i bet you will be amazed.take care

that stuff works GREAT! And it lasts forever! Besides this spray bottle stuff, it has to be the only stuff that I've used that doesn't streak. Their Trim Shine stuff on the other hand, I don't know why that don't work too good...

Stoner's Glass Cleaner is great stuff.

 

The Diamondite Spray Clay is an interesting alternative.
