What could be causing this?

When my 89 Sierra(auto tranny) shifts into second it shifts hard but doesnt slip or anything. It only happens in second and in every other gear it shifts smooth. What could be causing this? A solonoid?

I'm thinking it's probably a 700R4 transmission? Possibly a servo problem, or the 1-2 accumulator, either could effect that shift. I would get it checked out, it could be an indicator something is going wrong.

I'm not real familiar with the newer 700R4's, but it sounds like a selenoid to me. I would recommend having a tranny shop look it over.

Get your vehicle to a transmission shop soon. I had a 2wd 1990 chevy 1500 auto that started doing the exact same thing. It did this for a while and then the whole tranny went. This was at about 110,000 miles so I had no complaints. I hope I get as good of results out of my 2000.

Mine has 107K miles. Its been shifting hard in second for almost 2 years. lol So I dought the tranny will go any time soon but you never know.I might try a new solonoid and see if that does anything. If not then ill take it in.
