Went to the lot this evening, I looked at a 2005 Chevy 2500HD 4x4 LS 6.0, I was shocked at the price, the sticker was 36000.00, I think i can get the truck for about 30,000.00.IS the 6.0 a good choice, also, how many mpg do you get with the 6.0?

A buddy of mine gets 17 mpg on the highway with his 6.0 in a standard cab LB 4X4. My 8.1/All. CC/LB gets 7.9-9.1 mpg city. I bought mine used and is way more engine than I need. If I we're buying new and didn't haul I'd get the smaller engine.

I get somewhere between 12-13 avg. driving, 15 hwy. I changed to 285 BFG ATs and have a K&N FIPK and Hypertech programmer. Don't know in which order these affect mpg, but it used to get around 16-17 hwy. By the way that is 4x4 crew 6.0 and running high octane( )which made a differnce.

AAAhhh  , Need and want are two different things! Lets rephrase it. As of right now I tow nothing so the NEED for the 8.1 is not there. The desire is there or I wouldn't have bought it.

To be honest I'm not sure I would buy such a big truck with the smaller motor.

I'm 100% satisifed with mine. My mileage is all over the place.

Here in Central Washington I get 10 MPG pulling a 6700lb fifth wheel to the Oregon coast and back.

Daily driving 14.3

Freeway driving 16-17

If I set the cruise on 53 and let it do its thing i have gotten 19.2. Too bad i can't get that at 63 MPH.

The 6.0 is an excellant mid-size engine in a K2500HDfor my needs.

I think the 6.0l is a great engine. Ive just heard that it needs a westers and it really wakes this thing up alot. Right now im getting an average of 13.0 MPG and i have my foot in it quite a bit.

Its too bad you can't travel anywhere at 53 or even 63 MPH. You would get shot by a road rager. If I drove my Dmax at 53 on a trip I would probably get 25 miles to the gallon.

I've got a 2004 Crew Cab 2500HD with the 8.1/Allison combo. Been getting 9 MPG around town (average speed 22-25 mph, so that's really stop and go). Been getting 12 highway.

Buddy has same truck with the 6.0. He's getting 11.5 city or highway, so he's mad at me for my better highway MPG.

I drove a lot of crew cabs before deciding on the 8.1. Felt much stronger than the 6.0 in the CC HD. Figured since I drove so few miles every year (12k), that I could drive the 8.1 for 7+ years before cost of fuel would equal extra cost for the D-max. Didn't like the smelly diesel (did like the sound of the diesel!). Don't realy tow anything...just like having the extra power...and making my Dodge and Ford loving buddies jealous.

Well SS, actually I can drive 53 or 63. At 53 over the pass if someone gets behind me , I just pull over.

Since the PSL is 60 mph 63 works well. I always loose them in the curves.

I don't give G*d@mn sh*t what other drivers are going.

I'm a experienced driver.

Just because I commute 34560 miles a year over a mountain pass does not make me an expert driver. So I have to go slow sometimes. :nono:

I love the winters.

I have sooo many laughs.

All the Coastie SUV's and 4X4's laying on their sides along the shoulders of the road.

As for road rage??? :bs:

Road rage! Stinkin road rage !!!

I say......."RAIL 'EM!"

I agree 100%... The 6.0L is a strong motor and the Westers Tune makes it even better. That is the setup I am running in my HD with around 13.5 mpg on average between city and highway miles...

You can get good mileage out of these motors on long highway trips if you keep your speeds down. That is for sure. I have seen almost 17mpg out of my truck on a road trip. Stop and go the mileage drops to around 11mpg...

Millerwd,

I totally see where you are coming from too. I was born and raised in Utah and went to college in Colorado. I've been across some of the steepest, snowiest passes in the country. I will tell you one thing though. I put on as many miles as you do and unless it is a f*ing blizzard outside I can run over those passes with this truck(285/75-R16's BFG's) at a pretty good rate without slipping a tire. We don't get "coasties" out here! All said and done, I will probably never get the fuel mileage that you are getting.
