Techron

Has anyone used Techron and noticed a real improvement in performance, gas mileage, engine smoothness, etc? I have only used a fuel treatment once in my truck, Greased Lightning, it was supposed to be good for 12 mo/12k miles, I dont know if it really did anything. My engine runs great, the fuel mileage sucks for a 4.8l I get 14-15mpg, mostly non-highway.

I use a full tank dose before each oil change. I found that it helped lessen the occurence of sticking throttle on my 5.3 engines. Of course, maybe using more alcohol blend gasoline has helped, too.

Yeah...I use it. I like it too...I've never had any problems with dirty injectors either. I throw some in about every 20k. Several years ago when I started using it, I had heard that if you noticed stumbling and poor performance to throw two bottles in together. Right after that tank is used, change the fuel filter as it's pretty rough on it. I've never used the two bottle deal, so I have no idea if that's valid or not. I do however change the fuel filter right after one bottle. If I were you, I'd use the one bottle, change the fuel filter and see if it helps. My Z71 ECSB has a 4.8 with 4.10 gears, stock tires and wheels and around town I get 15-16 driving how I want. If I'm careful, I can get 18. I have a K&N FIPK GEN II and true Magnaflow duels. Hope this helps.

Does everyone change the fuel filter after putting in a bottle of this stuff?

I bought some and plan to use a bottle every 3,000 miles after I use the GM top engine cleaner.

Should I chance my fuel filter more regularly?

I use nothing but Chevron gas and add a bottle of Techron every 2,000 miles. Its primary purpose is to keep your injectors clean, so you should see a performance increase unless your system is really dirty.

I've used it on my past three cars, but I've never keep them long enough to see if it works as well as its billed. I've had multiple dealerships recommend it to keep the injectors clean between services. It did seem to help with engine knocking with my previous truck, so I continue to use it. Cheap insurace I think.

You should not need to change your fuel filter more often than 15000 miles. It's not a difficult job to do...just very messy; if you do it yourself, you won't WANT to change it more often than that!

It is a really messy job if you dont have access to a lift. I have a local mechanic who will change it for me for the price of the part if I have him change the oil. For $37.00 he does both. If you diy, be careful to use flare nut wrenches, if you strip the threads, you are up the creek.

I used Seafoam last time I used injector cleaner. Works pretty well, I did see an MPG improvement, as much as 1 MPG. I'll probably run another bottle next time I fill up and then do it every oil change (3,00-5,000 miles) from then on. Seafoam is still a little hard to find, but my local Advance Auto had it last time.
