'94 Suburban Blower Motor

Howdy, all - Great Forum!

I have a '94 Suburban that is in need of a new blower motor. It looks pretty straight forward, but am curious if the dash and side molding need to be removed to provide the clearance necessary to remove the cover and motor. Please tell me there is an easier way!!

Thanks for any advice!

Hmm, I've never done one on a Suburban, but I can't see the dash having to be removed for replacement. Not sure it that one is removed under the dash or hood, but the whole motor box shouldn't need to be removed. Usually the motor is part of a round plate that bolts into the box.

Welcome!

I'm assuming that you have A/C...you should be able to get at it by pulling the glove-box out, you may also have to remove the lower bolt that holds the right side of the dash to the kick panel...you MAY also have to disconnect the ECM wiring harness (if so, disconnect the Batt. ground cable 1st) but I have been able to sneak the blower out without disconnecting the ECM but you have to be carefull not to be rough with the wiring harness.....

Assunimg your interior is the same as my 1998 Silverado, you will not have to remove the dash. I replaced mine last winter in about 15 minutes. Be careful and try not to brake the compression fittings on the bottom sides of the case. The job is quick and easy, just look at the bolts before you start and try to take your time.

Thanks much for the info, guys!!

Citydriver - Could you explain a little more about the ECM? Does the module somehow hook up to the blower motor (???) or is the ECM wiring harness simply routed very near the motor, hindering removal? It may be obvious upon removal, but where does the ECM get connected from? I know just enough about this kind of stuff to be dangerous!!

Thanks again!

NO, the ECM does not hook to the blower motor, its just mounted near the air-box next to the side-wall. and the harness runs past it....there are two plastic connectors that the harness is connected to the computer with..They may not even be in the way, I mentioned them for the just-in-case factor....

You may also need to pull the kick-panel trim to get to the lower bolt/nut that holds the dash to the body..you may have to gently pull the lower right side of the dash to ease the removal of the blower motor.....It may not be a bad investment for you to get a repair manual or even invest in http://www.alldatadiy.com/index.htmlALLDATA DIY...the procedure is explained pretty well, and also comes in handy for all repair issues.....just a thought
