4.3 vortec distributor

I'm not familiar with 4.3 vortec distribtors therefore these Questions:

Is said distributor driven from cam shaft to a basic timing?

Will obdII sense and store cylinder specific misfire codes caused by faulty ignition module?

Will a faulty injector(s) cause obdII to store same cylinder specific codes?

Many $'s spent on plugs, leads, cap, rotor, injector flush but no fix.

I'm suspecting ignition module in distributor...learned thoughts welcome

Thanks in advance

Wow. I've been having the same problem, and trying to track it down. No one seems to know what this is. Im starting to suspect a time bomb set by GM...

Check the link in my sig.

Yes, The Distributor is Camshaft driven and is Basic timing but controlled by PCM.

OBDII will read a misfire on a cylinder or cylinders, I don't think A code will go off for a faulty ignition.

The PCM will store a code with a number for each cylinder. If Cylinder 1 is misfiring the code will end in a 1, If 6 was misfirng then it would end in a 6. I have a GM Fault code list for the 4.3 engines and I will look up the exact codes.

Tell me the issues your having... and also have you had any codes read before?

Also i want to add that it's not the injectors that get clogged up. The lines that are on the injectors that plugin to the fuel line is very small and can clog easily. I have seen and heard that it is a very commen issue amongst the 4.3's.

hey, I've been working this same problem and have had some success in fixing this problem. I too have rebuilt the entire ignition system with no luck in ridding the problem permanently. I have read that the injection sytem was failing on alot of vortech 4.3l engines and was do to the poppet nozzles getting clogged and sticking . So I went out and bought six new injectors 85$ each , new fuel pressure regulator 89$ and upper intake manifold gasket set 35$ and replaced these parts myself. This did cure the poblem I was having. These were my symptoms.A severe and noticable hesitation or sputter while accelerating usually on cool damp mornings . loss of power, engine would not pull and acellerate smoothly. service engine light would come on and set code po300 (random multiple cylinder missfire.) Just before I replaced the fuel injection parts I was also experiencing very hard starting, this ,I suspect was caused by the pressure regulator leaking into the intake manifold and flooding the engine so bad that it was nearly liquid locked. These parts can be replaced your self and the job is not as hard as it looks. I used a haynes manuel for reference. basic hand tools 1/4 drive rachet set, deep metric sockets needed. You have to remove intake duct and inside engine cover on vans . I did not have to remove a/c lines to get the upper manifold off on my van. The dealer will charge you 2000-2500$ for this job. Good luck.
