What's Up Everyone!

As the title says I'm new to the board and am eager to join in on some of the conversations after trolling around the forum for the past month.

I recently purchased a 04 Suburban and I have a few questions about oil changes.

1. When the time comes to do the scheduled oil change do you go by the hours

displayed or the traditional mileage (3K)?

2. For those using full synthetic motor oil, when is it reccomend that the oil be

changed (hours or mileage)?

Thanks in Advance

Welcome!!!

Personally I change my oil every 3 months. Sometimes I am at like 3300 and sometimes I am at 2700. I also run Mobil 1. An oil change done by myself is $23 for a case of oil plus like $2 for a filter. So $100 a yr on oil changes isnt bad

I use the Mobil 1 syn, seems to run better to me but its a little more $$ but well worth it, best price is at wally world. I change it about every 4-5k

Good luck, and "welcome" Great bunch of people on here, If you got questions this is the place.

I have a 98, run the Mobile 1 full syn. Change mine every 6-10k depending on driving conditions. When I replaced the IM gasgets at 120k, the valley pan was clean as a new engine. I have had no problems with the extended oil changes, the truck seems not to mind. The Syn will extend engine life and increase MPG, just once you begin useing it, stick with it. The biggest thing to realize is that it is not always the oil, but the oil filter that makes the difference. If the filter cannot handle the ammount of dirt and gets clogged, then the oil cannot do it's job.

Hello and Welcome!

I too am a fan of the Mobil1...just recently switched from 5w-30 to the 5w-40 Truck and SUV formula. The 5w-30 is fine for most applications, but since I recently swapped out my cam and springs for something a little more performance oriented, I decided to go a little thicker on the oil too.

Theoretically, you should be able to go 5K or 6 months with the synthetics, but I still like the 3K/3mo schedule. Sometimes go 4-41/2 months since my truck only sees about 10 miles a day and I rarely see an actual 3k oil change (it's a 99 and I'm just about 150 miles shy of 40k).

Oh yea, after 5 years of using Mobil1 5w-30, my engine looks like it's brand new internally. When I pulled the valve covers to do the cam/springs, there was absolutely no signs of sludge whatsoever.

What filter is everyone using in their GM's? ( I try to stay away form FRAM unless its single/multiple pass fltration rate as well as flow rate is better than what is readily available at the local auto-parts store)

Thanks

I always use either a baldwin or wix filter. I've never had any problems with these filters. They seem to do a good job.
