1999 Yukon Suggestions

I just got my 1999 Yukon. While the stock stereo is much better than my last GM truck, it's not as good as my 1998 Ram was. I'm looking for suggestions as to what I should do to improve my sound system without going too extreme. I don't want boxes of subs filling the back. I do want to crank my s**t up and not hear "pop, pop, crackle" from the speakers. I also plan on keeping the factory head unit. Just looking for a speaker upgrade and perhaps a small amp. So thats what I need, let's hear from the audio guys...Thanks.

I'd replace all of the factory speakers(Orion, Infinity, MB Quart, RF...there are a lot of good brands for speaker upgrades), and get a good 4-channel amp. This one should be enough power. http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/Pr...ProductID=13477

I like to stick with one brand for my stereo system, so if you get the Orion amp, I'd say get Orion speakers also. They make high quality products. Hope this helps.

If you replace the stock speakers with the same size aftermarket speakers, you will lose a ton of low end freq response. Aftermarket speakers are designed to work in exacting frequency ranges. Factory speakers are designed to play at very wide ranges.

In my opinion, you really need a sub. Even if it's a stealth box. (The kind that you shoehorn a 10" sub into your center console.) They sound pretty darn good for what they are.

Hey man if i was you i would hook up a complete JL Component system and add a 10 in there somewhere... or if you want some stuff a little cheaper check out power acoustik....

HERE YA GO >>> POWER ACOUSTIK

i have been using power acoustik for about a year now and you can turn it up as loud as you want with out crackling coming from the speakers.... might i add they also have some great 4 channel amps... and even a 6 channel i think... but hey i go for the booom thus i would put at least 4 12's in it....

if you want bass try checking out jl audio's stealth box's

Thanks for the input guys. Now at least I have a proper starting point. I'm looking at Sony Xplod 6 1/2's to replace the front and rear door speakers, along with a 400 watt 4-channel amp. We'll see where that gets me, if then I still need a subwoofer I'll do it when money permits. I'm not going for wake the neighbors "booms", I just want to be able to crank the volume and not get distortion (I beleive thats called fidelity). Thanks for the help.

Stay away from X-plodes...There are much better speakers out there for the same price.

That's just my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt. :chill:

Never believe anything you read on the internet.

OK, if you say so. I'm sure you know more about this stuff than me. I just looked at Xplod's because my buddy has them in his Escort and they sound really good. Also, they sound better in the store than the Pioneer's and Rockford's. What brand would you suggest that is in the same price range as the Sony's?
