Downward fireing subs.

Ok. I'm gonna build some sub boxes for my 02 ext cab. And i'm gonna use my 2 Fosgate 10's, that I took out of my Ram. I have built several boxes back in my younger days. But since the last time I built some boxes, times have chaneged a little. From what I have been reading now, and from the Audio places that I have visited, it seems that downward fireing subs are the way to go in a truck. For those who don't know, the subs are pointing down and fire towards the floor.

My question is, does anyone have this setup, and do you like it, and or can you tell a differnce in the way it sounds.

Hey Mark,

From what i have i dont mind it at all. This was my first install done in a pickup with extended cab so i wasnt sure what i was looking for but it seems to sound alright. I have moved on from my absolutely rump shaking bass that i used to have in my Jimmy and find that with the same subs it was quite a bit louder, but that was also due the space. More space made it louder. Only thing to watch out for is that the surrounds on the subs dont hit the floor. This happened to me at first and I had to shim my corners to bring the box up a bit. You can tell in the sound if they are or not, it will sound really muffled. i'll like em, i think you will too.

P.S. I have 12's and a 1200 watt kicker amp. :D

I have 2 10" 800 watt pioneers with a DEH 750MP pioneer premier HU. I have an 1800 watt no name amp i got from a buddy. The only problem is these subs are DVC (dual voice coil) so they are quite deep. I have to make a bzel to raise them up out of the box. But it sounds great. If i wasnt getting an 05 crew i'd invest in amping the compnenets too. I like the down firing, plus its stealthy, b/c you can see it al all from outside the truck, and even with the doors open it doesnt look much like a box.

I didn't think dvc subs were any deeper than svc subs. Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

most of the time they are the same

the equally comparable single voice coil of this model with equal rms and output was almost 1/2" shallower than these dvc's. I know, i had them in my hobby car then my brothers tahoe until they were stolen. they were originally in this box before they went into my hobbycar. they fit with no problem on depth, but the DVC was what it sounds like. Almost 2 magnets instead of the single to fire dvc's. I had to ghetto rig a combination og bezel and lift it with window insullation foam.
