If you have a dealer installed roof rack pull back the weatherstriping on top of the doors. when i did this to mine i found all of the shavings from the holes that were drilled. It started to pitt the finish and made big rust spots. check yours and bring it back to the dealer to fix. dont want the roof to prematurely rust.

When i took mine back they had to strip it and get rid of the rust and repaint. it was that bad. while i was there i took a look at the ones on the lot and they all had the same thing.

No roof rack here, but I thought I wanted one. Now I am not so sure. I think I will just wait. Probably wouldn`t use it anyway. Thanks for the heads up. I will look and see if the same thing is happening around here.

I've heard a lot of complaints about neglect when the dealers install a roof rack. If you do get one installed tell the dealer that you want the whole top taped off so that the metal shavings won't get into all of the crevices. and in the avy there are a lot of crevices.

Actually, the top, the sides, the back, the front - everywhere! I had metal shavings in the window channels, in the side boxes, all through the sail panels and upper trim, along the rear bumper, etc. The problem was made worse because the dealer pressure washes the vehicle during prep - pushing all those shavings into every imaginable crevice. It also starts the rusting process. HUGE pain! It took 3 trips to the dealer to get them all taken care of - and I still find a few slivers now and then. :angry:
