Feeling a bit down

<sigh> Well today I did it. I placed my beloved 1995 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor up for auction on Ebay.

I just can justify insurance and registration on two vehicles, especially seeing how I will need to get my 100,000 mile maintenance done on my truck fairly soon and I have a wedding to plan comming up in may. With the money I get from selling my car I will have the 100,000 mile maintenance done on it, Front/rear diff & Transfer case oil changed, transmission flushed, coolant flushed, thermostat replaced, and if I have enough $$$ left over I will get a Line-X spray in liner for the bed and a good quality tool box as well. <sigh> I wish my fiance were here right now, i really need some TLC because of me loosing my car soon  It's like loosing your best friend....

If you guys want to buy a cop car, you don't have to buy them used. All you need is a dealer willing to place you an order for a 9CX Impala, they hav'nt even changed the code... I had Malibu 9C1.. Nothing like a 350 in the downsized Malibu!! But that was.. what 20 years ago?? You'll have to wait for a run, but you will get the heavy engine cradle, Jumbo rad. and massive alt, coolers for the oil, steering and EPDM hoses. You can opt for the cloth, or stick with that 4 inch think vinyl for the seats.

Check out my pick here...

That is a nice clean car. Thats one thing about living on the front range the cars stay nice forever. Bummer you gotta sell. Can you go with just liability insurance still in colo? The tags can't be to expensive on a 95. Hate to see you give it up as those crown vics ride and handle about the best this side of a full luxury car.

A few years back I purchased a 1993 Caprice 9C1 Police Package from the Colorado State Patrol Auction. This vehicle was in great condition and ran very well for a car that had 90,000 miles. CSP put on rear spoilers to their 91-95 9C1s (none of their 96 cars had them for some reason) which helped to make that ugly back end look a little more decent. I loved this car and it never let me down. 1991 is when they changed from the square box style to the rounder style and they made a few minor changes in 1993 such as open wheel wells and a more clean look to the tail lights. In 1994 the Caprice got the 5.7L LT-1 derived 260 HP Engine which everyone who drove one loved. The old classic 350 was a great engine but finally the performance came that the police officers wanted with the LT1. Unfortunitly GM did something very STUPID in 1996 and discontinued the full size sedan line including the Caprice, Impala SS (same thing as the Caprice just dressed up a bit nicer with a few nicer options) Buick Road Master, and Cadi Fleetwood. They did this so that they could upgrade the Arlington Texas plant which produced the full size sedans to produce trucks/SUVs since that is where the demand was. GM intended to replace the Caprice 9C1 with the Tahoe 9C1, but these did not sell well at all. It was just a RWD version, no 4WD. ALot of nice room yes, but it lacked performance from the 255 HP Vortec 5.L. Thats when most of the agencies who were loyal to Chevy Police vehicles started to go with the Crown Victoria which offered a much more pratical patrol vehicle despite it not having the performance of the LT1 Caprice, it to this day remains the biggest seller amung police vehicles with over 80% of the sales of police vehicles going to the Crown Vic. GM replaced the Tahoe Police Package with the new generation Imapala Police Package which due to it's lack of performance, it's smaller size, and lack of ability to take abuse, is more or less a joke to drive as a patrol vehicle. You mostly see the agencies with budget problems who use the Impala as a Patrol vehicle. They make wonderful admin vehicles/investigations and undercover, but they have been proven to not withstand the abuse and give the longevity that the full size sedans can. GM should have learned this when they tried a stint with the Lumina 9C1 police package back in the mid 90s. They didn't sell well at all. There had been a big thing over the past few years regarding the concern that the Crown vic is prone to having the fuel tank explode when hit from behind at high speeds. It has been found though that the Crown Vic is just as safe of a car as any other in regards to this. The main reason the fuel tanks were exploding is because there just happens to be more Crown Vics on the side of the road (Police vehicles on traffic stops) who are exposed to rear end collisions then any other car.

As for purchasing a brand new police package vehicle, both GM and Ford are very much against selling these vehicles to the public unless your a fleet manager for a law enforcement agency. The dealers can get into big trouble with GM/Ford if they are found trying to sell these brand new cars to the public.

Now you're going to make me get all nostalgic Ryan. My first car when I got hired was a 97 Crown Vic, right before they did the body change. The seat was sunk nice and flat across the board unlike most of our cars which have a lean one way or another. It went back all the way despite the cage being in there, so I could drive with both my legs straight...definitely a plus being 6'5. That car ran well, handled well, and was comfortable. They gave it to one of the Dare guys to drive when we got newer stuff in, but when my newer car wasn't available, I'd take her out anytime I could. I remember stopping a guy for speed one time who also had a suspended license. Did an inventory of his car and found a bunch of bongs and pipes...was pretty amusing to be marching that stuff back to the car with the Dare decals on the doors. We were also working our bridge/speed detail on the interstate and the guy on the bridge clocked a 99+ cougar at 104 and I managed to get up to that thing in no time at all. Unfortunately they got rid of that car about 2-3 years ago despite it having relatively low mileage compared to the rest of the fleet...they wanted everything to be 98+

Just thought I'd post an update, it just sold for the price I wanted on Ebay so I am happy about that. :D Now will come the 100,000 mile maintenance and after that some goodies for my truck such as a Tool Box, and Line-X spray in liner!

Sorry about your loss Ryan :chevy: , I'm glad that at least you got what you were asking for it. Congrats on your engagement though, she sounds like one hell of a woman (you sold your car for her, now that's true love). Best of luck to the three of you, (you, your lady, and your truck), and just so you know, Simpson makes baby seats that look like race car seats...if that's in your future :D
