OEM Bridegstone Duelers

After owning two previous "new body style--99up" trucks. I was impressed with the wear of the OEM Firestone Wilderness AT's. Don't get me wrong, I don't think they were the caliber of Revos or BFGoodrich All Terrains, but as far as a factory tire went, they wore really good. This brings me to my current truck that came with OEM Bridgestone Duelers. I rotated today w/ approx 4300 miles. I swear I had worn off more tread than the Firestones on the other trucks had @ 20K miles. Is this another "cut" GM made in our trucks. Or is everyone else seeing ok wear on the Bridgestones? Maybe it's just my tires. Just wondering.............

I agree that the wear is poor on them. I've got about 10k on mine and they look like they have about twice that much on them. my biggest complaint about them is that they have the spongiest sidewalls i've ever had. very stupid for gm to put a tire with such a nonexistent load range on a truck like this. I'm just waiting for an excuse (or blowout) to replace them, but right now i can't quite justify shelling out the $$ for new set.

My '05 came with them. Go to tirerack.com and do a search for that tire and read the reviews. Few reviewers had anything good to say about them. I traded my OEMs for the B.F. Goodrich TA/KOs for $300 mounted and balanced. When you consider the obvious price difference, the shipping costs plus what would've been my cost to have them mounted and balanced, that was a pretty good deal. This is my 4th new 4x4 since 1998 and they all had the TA/KOs as will my next truck.

I agree...these Duelers are awful. They seem to have lousy traction in the rain and I'm not impressed with the way the side walls roll over and play dead either. I just had to have a defective one replaced too.

IMO - I think the Duelers are the best tire out there, and all the reviews on them are High, From what I heard GM upgraded their tires because of the poor quality of the Goodyear Wranglers which I Highly agree, they have no wet traction after 15k "very dangerous tire".

Tire rack review:

Duelers 7.4 out of a 10 Goodyear Wranglers 2.1

and most of the Goodyear line received poor ratings, I guess it depends on where you live and the road conditions, and what it is mounted on, to tell what is the best tire. But as you know the best tires wear out faster.

It really does seem to depend on what vehicle they are mounted on. There are also several different models of the Dueler. The factory tire for '05 is the Dueler H/T D684II or something like that. I live in snow country on a road that isn't on the map. There was no way I was going to depend on that tire judging by the tread pattern alone. I guess I'll never know if they work or not.

As NV5600 pointed out, there are several different Bridgestone Dueler tires. All P-metric tires should have UTQG ratings for Treadwear, Traction, and Temperature stamped on the sidewall. I believe the stock tires are Dueler A/T 693II with UTQG numbers of 360-B-B. The Dueler A/T Revo is rated 500-A-B. As I understand it, a treadwear rating of 400 is supposed to wear twice as long as a rating of 200. It's all pretty arbitrary, the tire manufacturers assign the rating numbers for their tires.

the Denali goodyear HP's come with 11/32's of tread from GMC.

if you buy the exact same tire from a goodyear dealer, you get 13/32" of tread.

could you believe goodyear makes special tires for GMC with less rubber !!!!!!!!!

The reason that the OEM Duelers are so soft in the sidewall id that 99% of people want a soft ride, even in a truck. Going with a soft rubber and a soft sidewall improves comfort on test drives, increasing the likelihood that testers will buy the truck, even with a "hard" suspension setup like the Z71 package.

I know that I wanted a soft ride, even with the Z71, which made it hard to decide between my Z71 and a "soft-ride" equipped Silvy. In the end, the Z71 w/ 16" tires was still comfortable enough for my tastes, though I may go with an LT tire in the same size, just to get the better sidewall stiffness.

Not sure, I would check but the truck is in the shop. I do know that they are wider than the stock tires, either 275 or 285. I have to replace them and was thinking about going to a 16". If I do this, I was told I could only have a 285, but with the 15's, I could go 295's. When I get the truck back, I will get you the numbers.
