Truck Vibration 73-78 MPH

Brand new 2004 Chevy 2500 HD. Vibrates between 73-78 MPH. Seems to be coming from the transmission. Caused a noise in the dash. Dealer fixed noise, but the vibration that caused it still remains. Anyone else with this problem?

If it's very specific on truck speed, my first instict would be to blame it on the ujoints.

My dad had the same problem with his 03' Yukon XL. He must have taken it to the dealer a dozen times to get it fixed. They tried everything from new tires to muffler baffles and even an new drive shaft to fix it. They final decided to fly in one of the engineers from GM to find the problem. They told him that every GM truck or SUV did the same thing, and the engineer proved it to him by getting in two or three different trucks and making them do the same thing in park. He call it engine firing frequency. Basicly it is the sweet spot in the engine. This was on a 5.3l motor. Just a thought.

That sounds like BS! They fly in an engineer? I doubt it, he was probably the finance guy from the dealership. Every GM truck and suv do it? Mine dosen't. How can they compare driving the vehicle with putting one in park????? What is "engine firing frequency"? The term dosen't even mean anything. Sweet spot on the engine? More like crank is out of balance, probably throw a rod by the time the warranty is up. I would make them fix it or take the junk back!

I will try and get the paper work from him and get it posted on the site. GM gave him a extended warrenty to put him at ease that nothing was wrong with the truck. I think it was another 50k or 60k after the 3yr 36k. Just thought I would post his problem as something to look for on his truck!!!

I am really tired of GM saying anything they cannot/will not fix is normal. The extended warranties are just an insurance plan. They are hoping nothing gets worse to the point of total failure before the extra warranty runs out. I know if I told my boss, my "customer" that I could not solve the problem and he would have to live with it, I would be looking for a new job. If they wont honor the original warranty, what makes you think they will honor the extended warranty? I know it takes time and effort to make these people stand behind their product, but that is the way it is.

Engine firing frequency was a good one. THe "Flown in"

engineers small block doesn't fire the same I'm guessing.

When they change the firing order (18346572) from a Chevy

block, let me know.

I have a 2001 2500 HD 4x4 with 78K. I had a vibration at about 70-78 mph in the driveline. It turned out that I had a leak (2 tiny holes) in my transfer case and it was running with no oil in it. The transfer case was ruined. My slip yoke was ruined. It's in the shop right now getting fixed.

I wouldn't say that this is the problem with yours, but keep this in mind. Transmission shop said it was a weak design by Chevy. Not a common problem, but it does occasionally happen.
