new for 2005 DEXRON synthetic fluid

Well I lost the web site for this one and was hoping that someone in the know can give us more information.

from what I read GM is changing the requirements of the DEXRON III fluid that the certified manufactures are blending. The new requirements are the use of SYNTHETIC stock

My questions are:

1) will this new fluid be a true 100% synthetic

2) will there also be non-synthetic DEXRON fluid available

4) will the NEW Dexron be compatable with the current Dexron III

(can we mix the 2 ?)

5) what will the new DEXRON fluid be called (Dexron III-D ????)

6) when will be seeing the new fluid at the local part stores

anyone have a GM webite or other good URL to address the above questions ?

The bulletin from GM sent to us dealers on Sept.3rd-'04 states this:

"GM has recently upgraded the Dexron-III ATF specification.

The upgraded specification is referred to as Dexron-III w/ "H-Revision". This upgrade will ensure that ATF's are commercially available to match the quality and durability of current factory-fill ATF. Fluids that meet the requirements of the H-revision are labeled as "Dexron-III,Approved for the H Specification"

Fluids labeled as Dexron-III "H' Specification can be used in any transmission application which specifies the use of Dexron II,IIE or III ATF's."

It does not say anything about it being synthetic or a synthetic blend fluid but if I find out otherwise I'll let you know.

Wow, that's pretty interesting, I'd like some answers to those questions too. I wouldn't worry about the availability of non synthetic Dexron, there's a billion vehicles out there that use it and every oil company makes their version of it.

A bunch of companies make synthetic trans fluid too, I'm sure that GM will just contract one of them for their synthetic. I guess that by GM doing this it helps to answer some questions people have about switching to synthetic trans fluid. Unless GM makes some major changes to their 4L60E and 4L80E, or their using the synth in a different trans altogether, then it shouldn't be a problem to switch. I'm definitely curious about compatability with the non synth stuff, I've been contemplating going with synthetic ATF for a while, it's the only place that I don't use synthetic (well there and the power steering fluid).

Good find 100R1 :chevy:
