I broke my truck!

Backed out of the garage and cracked the mirror on the passenger side. Stopped before I tore the whole mirror assembly off, but I still broke the glass part.

EDIT - I spoke to the parts guy at my GMC dealer - the glass alone is $43.71+tax. Has anyone replaced one - is it easy?

Replacing just the glass is a piece of cake. Pop old one out pop new one in easy as that. I paid $33 for mine when I broke my pass side. This was an electric mirror Non heat is yours heated?

I also cracked some of the plastic on the mirror and bought a whole new assembly but havent put it on (been in my closet for 2 yrs now )

I dont know what year she is, but I would imagine you could get a replacement mirror glass for a 92-98 at an autoparts store like Pepboys for cheap. If it is a later model then I would doubt it.

Edit-to make you feel better I should add that a week after I bought my Nissan Titan I slapped mirrors with a F350. We both had the extendable tow mirrors and when they hit my mirror extended and folded into my truck denting the weather strip under the window and cracking both the main mirror and the blind spot one. The Ford kept going (of course, as he was on my side of the road when he hit me). Anyhow, all the parts were backordered of course and I had no mirror on my new truck for about a month, and payed $150 for a whole new mirror assembly......too bad I had to wait six more months for it to get stolen!!!

Ryan...

Mine's a 99, power, not heated. Does the glass (and plastic housing I think) just 'pop' out of the assembly? Is there a screw or glue or what?

I have a 99 also, no power, heat, just a basic mirror, at the locat autozone it was $55 for the complete assembly.

And for some reason since then I do not have the whistle sound from that mirror anymore. this was the drivers side.

No glue at all. Just pop it in. Pull the old one out. They are held in with like little plastic clips that I think are unbreakable. At least I had no problem at all.

It beats having to take apart your door panel to replace the whole assembly. (if you go that route performance products has them for like $60 a piece I think???)

Thanks for your help. I've found the parts cheaper on the web by as much as $10, but shipping adds back about $8 or more...
