2004 Silverado - Zerk Fittings

Did Chevy/GM do away with zerks on 2004 and newer trucks? Is it a perm lube chassis? A buddy has a 2004 and we weren't sure.

Nope,'04's still have zerk fittings.Thank god they didn't take them out yet

I think they learned from the '88-'89's that it don't work to well without them.

Although the new Colorados/Canyons don't have fittings.

I believe they are all around the front suspesnion/steering components. I dont think mine has any on the driveshafts or u joints.

Nope,None on the U-joints or driveshafts.

You have the Upr. & Lwr. Ball Joints,Inr. & Otr. Tie Rod ends and the Idler & Pitman Arms(and you have to remove the skid plate to make it easier to get to those-which is why some dealers and quickie lubes don't grease them!! )

You have 12 on the front suspension and 1 on the output shaft seal (it's more like a small hole in the seal on the bottom). You'll need a needle adapter if you plan on lubing this one yourself.

2wd

You get only 7 on the front.

I could be wrong about this (wouldn't be the first time ) and someone correct me if I am, but I think that "small hole" your talking about isn't for grease,I think its for moisture to escape,that design seal is known as a "booted" seal and protects the shaft of the yoke going into the transfer case,the main seal is in behind the "boot" part of the seal up against the transfer case.

And I think there are only 11 fittings on these new-body-style 4x4 trucks,at least thats all that was on my '99 and on my '04. My old-body-style trucks ('93,'94 & '97 K1500's) had 12 with one being on the frt. driveshaft.

I only find 11 on my '04 too.
