Four Wheel Drive Help!!!!!!!!

1997 Chevy K1500

I noticed that the lights were flashing on my electronic four wheel drive dash switch. I left it alone for fear of getting it stuck in 4 wheel drive.

 

The light kept on flashing for a little while and then it just turned off totally. The light does not not come on at all anymore, unless the vehicle is being started when all of the dash lights flash on.

 

I replaced the front axle actuator as a trasmission specialist told me that was my problem. Still nothing. I checked the transfer case fuse and looked fine.

 

Where should I go from here?

 

Could it be a bad switch, wiring or something. I am so lost with this and need help fast as it is going to be getting nasty outside around here soon. Please help me!!! Thanks. Josh

Lots of NBS trucks, mine included have/had bad switches, not sure about OBS though.

What is the difference between NBS and OBS? Also, where is the switch located. Do I need to replace the dash switch or is there another one on the transfer case?

NBS=New Body Style

OBS=Old Body Style

 

The switch I am referring to is the dash switch, the only other switching mechanism that comes to mind is the actuator on the transfer case. I would say to definetly try the dash switch first if you had the new body style trucks, but I'm not familiar with the old style's to offer definite advise. If it were my truck I would try the switch for around 40$ its a relatively cheap shot in the dusk.

IF your truck has the light, you must have push-button 4x4.

 

Some 97s still had the old thermal front axle actuator.

 

I think the way the light flashes tells you what the problem is though.

 

Possibilities:

Front axle actuator,

Transfer case actuator,

4x4 control module (silver boxx under dash)

fuses

wiring problem

dash switch
