Starter Replace?

Gotta 1994 Silverado 4.3...anyone replace a starter?? Is this a difficult/expensive job??

It is not hard to replace. I would recommend removing it and taking it to a auto electrical repair shop to look at it. Might could be rebuilt/repaired on the spot in less than 20 minutes for a few bucks.

 

If I remember correctly, you need a 9/16" socket (a 3" extension helps) for the starter mounting bolts, a 3/8" wrench or nut driver for the smaller wire (just remember which one of the terminal post the smaller wire goes on). , and a 5/8" wrench or socket for the positive terminal post.

It's one of the easier parts to replace. I did the one on my 92 on a snowy night, in the dark, with a $19 mickey-mouse wrench set from PepBoys.

 

My fingers are still cold from that wintery night 5 years ago.

I've been there but, I got you beat!

 

I had to pull a transmission out of a '81 K5 Blazer many years ago by myself with about 10" of snow on the ground. I had been driving the Blazer in the snow when the tranny blew a front pump seal, so snow was all packed up on the under side. I had it towed home and since I had to have it for transportation I stuck a Kerosene heater under it to melt the snow so I could work. That was a mistake, the snow continued melting so I had to deal with the melting snow dripping the whole time. I had to remove the transfer case seperate from the tranny due to the weight and being by myself I laid under the tranny using my legs and knees to support the tail end and lowered it onto my chest. What a time I had. Fussing and cussing the whole time .
