4x4chevyman Posted December 13, 2004 Posted December 13, 2004 me and a few of my friends have been looking into the idea of starting a 4x4 shop and possibly making lift blocks and other parts after we graduate it isnt anything serious just a thought but do you think there is any kind of future in starting a business like this? we all love trucks and working on them so we just thoght this could be a wayu to put it into a career what kind of college courses would help with this? is this something worth looking into?
Wingnut Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 If there are any classes in college that would help an endeavor like this...They would be business classes.
millerwd Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 I agree with Wingnut, to prosper you'll have to have an excellant business strategy. Service is where you'll make your money. Equipment is too cheap on the web to depend on retail sales. You might consider providing a trick detailing service as part of your bussiness. Linux, Rhino lining, 3m protective film application, etc. People are spending big bucks on pickups and SUVs. Many of them have the desposable income to pay for washing waxing detailing. Just my opinion, BillM
4x4chevyman Posted December 14, 2004 Author Posted December 14, 2004 yeah i was thinking that if i actually went through with this the first classes i would take would be business classes millerwd,i was thinking th same as you kind of like a multi-purpose truck store with tires, wheels, lifts, detailing, and installs,spray-in bedliners etc
Likarok Posted December 15, 2004 Posted December 15, 2004 One of the very successfull stores up here in Calgary.......goes around to the Car dealers and works with them on there pick-ups. They supply a set of nice wheels and tires, nice pinstripe details, stainless grills, cowl hoods, etc. to the dealer. The dealer then adds all this to the price of the truck. Miller is right.......most people want all this stuff on the truck and can't be bothered adding it themselves. Just another angle to think about........
4x4chevyman Posted December 15, 2004 Author Posted December 15, 2004 you are right Likarok there is a growing demand for truck accesories and most of the people that will pay for those parts would much rather pay someone else to install it than them and thats a great business oppertunity(i hope)
