Oil Pressure Fluctuating

I switched from a conventional 15W-40 to Mobil 1 5W-30 this past weekend. Ever since that oil change, I am noticing a change in my oil pressure while I am driving down the road. Before the oil pressure would hold steady at all RPM's, but now the oil pressure gauge varies up and down with the RPM's. Is this normal, or should I switch back to a higher weight oil? Thanks!

never ran into and oil pressure gauge staying at one

pressure.but i know with the thinner oil the gauge will

be lower than it would with the thicker oil or is that

backwards?good luck

My pressure never stays steady through the rpm range...always fluctuating with the RPMs. At idle it drops, cruising it rises, and with accelerating it peaks.

Sounds good then. I just never paid any attention before, I guess??? Oh well, thanks for the responses. I just wanted to be sure it was normal! Thanks Again!

I just picked up my new 2005 HD on Thursday, it comes from the factory with 5W-30 and the oil pressure gauge is all over the place depnding on rpm. That's normal. More rpm means more oil pump revolutions so more pressure until the relief valve kicks in.

If it is a 6.0l there is a service letter on the oil pressure sending units.

I switched just to try the Mobil 1 out. I have always ran the heavier weights in the past, but read that so many people on here were running the lighter weight oil with no issues. I also wanted to see if it boosted the gas mileage any??? I still prefer the heavier weight oils, just wanted to experiment. What are you running in your HD?
