new tires and winch mount

Please forgive my ignorance here, but from the photographs it looks like the bed support has had a section cut out to make room for the winch (or, much the same thing, to make room for the tow line). Also, does that rear-mount winch require that the spare tire be removed? It's hard to be sure about what the photos show because of the angles.

I think the rope is a better product than the cable in my opinion I have a lot of friends that use it and think highly of it. As far as the mount yes I removed the spare tire to fit the winch in, I am making a tire mount to fit in the back of my truck, If I have a flat I would rather pull it out of the back vs having to winch it down from underneith , also you cant fit large oversize tires under the truck, I plan on lifting later. The rear crossmember was rebuilt around the winch to hold when the winch is being used.

Great Idea, I have always thought Wenches were for the front, but I guess if you get stuck somewhere, you need to go out the way you came in. Makes more sense now.

Nope hitch wasnt affected. I like it.

Any particular reason you mounted the winch that way? I understand the beauty of being able to pull backwards,but this set-up looks like a pain in the butt. The Warn Multi-mount system would have done what you wanted to without carving up your truck.

 

Another thought I have is, isn't the winch going to get trashed by road debris?

 

If you like it thats all that matters,but it just seems that you did this the hard way.

We siliconed where the wire was run, and as most know , all you have to do is take a can of Pam cooking spray and coat the winch. Been using it for year this way. What happens to a winch that sits out in the weather for about 2 years? What happens when you take it through a mudd hole? No difference with it mounted under or on the front.

I mounted it there because I will be doing a lot of traveling up north close to main as of next sat. I wanted it somewhere I would be able to use it, and it would be out of the way. the engage and disengage is very easy to reach.

I wont have room in the back of my truck for storing a multi-mount settup because it will be full of tools. I will be living in hotels for the next year and I really didnt want to move it in the hotel and then back in the truck everyday. On that same note a multi-mount is only going to be as solid as your hitch is anyway, this mount has been reinforced, its not comming off unless the whole bed comes off with it.
