Man I just love this auto-trac in the snow, it works so much smoother than the auto in my wifes Mountaineer.Hers is all herky-jerky when it engages and mine is smooth and quiet - gotta love it

Yep, that was exactly my response first time I used it - the only way you know it's engaged is that the back wheel(s) aren't spinning any more!!

Basically, the only time I ever have it engaged is when I need to pull out quickly at a snow-covered intersection, etc.

I know what you mean.  I've had mine engaged since our first snow fall back in October.  Gas mileage has been crappy, but no sliding around.   :(

wanna try something scary.....go to where you have a lot of run off room.....wood the throttle and get all 4 wheels spinning while in auto 4x4 for a few seconds. go for the break pedal.....just try to push it...it will be very hard for a few seconds and then bleed down so you have brakes....very scary if you are not ready for it. If you try it, have a lot of run off room and be careful.

You know why that is,.. right?

You are spinning up the wheels at different speeds, and when you brake, the ABS kicks in. The difference in wheel speed is just like that of a hard stop where one or more wheels decel faster, thus kicking in the ABS.

The autotrac is wonderful - I have an AWD - tough to steer on dry roads - just wish the autotrac kicked in automatically with the first raindrop - like auto wipers.

Also nice for kicking butt at a stop light.

what i like most about auto-trac...is that i dont have to explain to my wife "4-hi,4-lo,2-hi." i just tell her when the road is questionable, use auto-trac. unlike my buddies girl who drove on the highway in low gear.

My friend drives the truck often and she is a very "enthusiastic" driver even in the rain. I think Autotrac has saved that truck more than once.

I agree with PUNN, saved alot of hassle with the wife.  Not that she can't understand it, just doesn't have the time to mess with it!

Maybe GM had a good idea there?  ;)

Maybe they just figured they would give you guys a break, but if you really want to hear it again I'd have no problem doing it.  But just not in this thread.  :(

I am gonna let you guys who like it so much find out for yourselves why its unpopular with people who require a realiable 4wd system.....  (just wait a few years when it gets out of warrenty)
