Sorry Guys....been shopping for a used truck and I'm getting confused. :):chevy:

I know 1500, 2500 & 3500 model differences are 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton & 1 ton but what do all the others model names mean????

Is Z71 strictly a 4X4 model??? Are all 4X4's then considered Z71???

ANY help is apprecited.

z71 is off road package added to only 4x4 gm's

I think it includes skid plates and gas shocks and a fancy decal for which country western songs are made.

(not available on 2500 or larger)

A silverado is a chevy the sierra is a gmc and the 1500 kinda stands for half ton. Either can be a 1500(1/2) 2500(3/4)  or 3500(1 ton)

Besides the off road package for the Z71 model, do the Sierra or Silverado have any special options over the 1500 or visa versa???

(getting confused yet :D )

Sierra is GM's truck, Silverado is Chevy's. The sizes are the 1500, 2500, 3500. Trim levels are LS and LT for the Silverado...I want to say SL and SLE for the GM(it's been 5yrs since I owned my Jimmy)- The top of the line options being the LT or SLE.

99silveradoz71 on the GMC SIERRA side of the house the trim levels are W/T BASE,SLE,SLT. the SLT is the top of the line. Can ya tell I like having letters as opposed to a bowtie on the grill :D

I had actually typed SLT first, but pushed the panic button believing that I was confusing it with a certain other motor company's trim level XLT.

GM Sierra and Chev Silverado are made in the same plant(s).

They just have different badges and other crap. same truck different stickers and other junk.

Pick your fave. I have a Silverado, but it doesn't have that ugly avalanche front on it. I would buy a GMC just to not have that (now). It's your call, same $hit, diffent pile.

ok here we go

1500,2500,3500 just your basic weight ratings 1/2ton 3/4 ton 1ton

sliverado/sierra different badges

sl/base silverado no power options basic simple truck

sle/ls= power ammenities, beter radios, keyless entry z71 now an option

slt/lt= same as ls/sle plus leather

z71= shocks, skid plates , sticker 1500 only

but now when you get to the 3/4 ton theres LD and HD (light duty/heavy duty)

2500 ld only has a 6.0l HD's can have 6.0l,8.1l, or duramax diesel

1 ton is strickly HD
