Hows the power difference? Is the 5.3 faster, more car like?

Someone had a 2500 and said he didn't like the 6.0, but "the 5.3 is like an LT1, much faster." Please tell its just like the 5.3 just more powerful. I love my Z71, I can tell it has much more potential with the ecm reprogrammed

The 5.3 is faster off the line I had a 6.0 before th D max. It would tow more than the 5.3. The toy hauler was some weight. I had my budy take it to town for some warranty work with his 5.3 He said it wouldnt go over 60 down hill. But if we raced of the line empty he would get me in the 6.0 HD. I could do about 75 with the hauler.

But compared to the d max there is no comparing

the 5.3 unloaded is faster than the 6, even the 8.1, but theres more potential to be had with the 6 and even the 8.1. i keep thinking my buddy's 5.3 is faster than my 8.1 but with trailers its totally different, i want to get a tune soon to uncork it, and i agree about the dmax, its just fast period :chevy:

Well do you think an empty 5.3 1500 with a tune would be faster than a 8.1 HD with a tune?

Brother has a 2001 Tahoe with 5.3, I have 04 2500HD with 8.1

We raced from stop light and it was neck and neck up to about 60 MPH. I don't see a big difference in speed. But I did have my AC on...so I think I could take him next time.

We are pretty competitive, so I don't think either of us were holding back.

Something that maybe considered is horsepower to weight ratio.

how many pounds does a 5.3 have to move in a Tahoe versus the 6.0 or 8.1 iin a 2500HD 4x4 C.C. LB ?

Is it a realistic comparision?

Obviously the 5.3 does not have the power of a 6.0 or 8.1 Look at the HP/torgue ratings.

They don't put a 5.3 in the Denali, Yukon or Sierra.

Just my opinion.

No replacement for displacement. :chevy::D:lol: 325 cubes or 382(i think that's what the 6.0 is) Much more potintial in the 6.0 plus more HP and tq to begin with.

All this I'm reading about the 5.3 being faster than the 6.0 leads me to say the following:

First of all, there is a difference between "faster" and "quicker"; all things being more or less equal, there is no way a 5.3 can go "faster" than a 6.0--like someone else mentioned, there is no replacement for displacement. I mean, heck--if a 5.3 is faster than a 6.0, would it make sense to say that the 4.8 is faster than the 5.3? I didn't think so...

Now if you want to talk about which is "quicker"...before quantitatively stating that the 5.3 is indeed quicker than the 6.0 (off the line, unloaded, etc.), make sure you're comparing apples to apples--e.g., what is the final drive of the two vehicles in question? I mean, a 5.3 w/ a 4.10 may very well get off the line quicker than a 6.0 w/ say a 3.73 or even a 3.42 (if it's even offered at all w/ the 6.0).

Also, unless you're talking about a 2WD Tahoe w/ a 5.3 and a 3.73 or 4.10 gear combo, one would be hard pressed to claim that a 5.3 is faster/quicker than any GM 6.0 truck/SUV--I seriously doubt that a stock 5.3L Tahoe will beat a stock 6.0 shorty (i.e., not XL) Denali.

Not trying to be argumentative...

I think first gear in the 4L80e is higher than the first gear in the 4L60e. That also makes it seem like the 5.3L comes off the line quicker.

Well I don't think we can compare apples to apples. Because the 6.0 comes in a 2500 and the 5.3 in a 1500. Of course the 6.0 could be faster because its bigger. But I think he ment to ask if the 6.0 more or less is like stump puller only with no quickness.....aka all torque no HP.

And I know a 5.9 is equal to a 360, so I don't think a 6.0 would be 382, but who knows I might be wrong. I havn't been wrong yet this year, so I am probably due for one now. :chevy:

NO I THINK YOUR RIGHT ! 6.0 IS MORE LIKE A 364 IF IM NOT MISTAKEN :chevy:

Well this didn't accomplish much. Need someone who had a 5.3 and bought a 6.0, or vice versa. Like I said, I love my Z71 and the 5.3, its awesome. But if I ever plan on building another lifted truck, I'm gonna start out with the 2500 for the better axles and stronger t-case. I was just wondering if the 6.0 was so powerful like the 1500. Another factor is just that, the axles. 10 bolts are wimpy and alot lighter than the 2500 axles. The 2500 is pulling around alot more weight.

I mean I would just figure that the 6.0, same design as the 5.3, just bigger, would be a little step up from the 5.3 in power. Time to go test drive I guess....

Oh and btw, i really need to test drive a duramax i guess, can't imagine what it feels like to be so fast and not rev past 3500.

edit: is the 6.0 lower compression maybe? different heads

The 6.0 does run better has more tq and hp. Much better engine for what you want. I agree on the hd being a better rig due to heavier diffs trans and tc. Of course this is a moot point because I don't believe you can get the 5.3 in a hd.

You gotta start thinkin bigger either 6.0 or 8.1 or duramax :seeya:
