5.3 Vs 6.0 Gimme your opinions

the weight difference is nominally 1 ton..... as for getting a 6.0l in a half ton, a buddy had a vmax, much faster than the 5.3l 1500, but neither was in the same league as me dmax....

these motors 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 and dmax are great power plants when used as intended. the 4.8l is a 2wd, or highway running 1500 is a decent fuel miser, 5.3l for light towing in a 1500. the 6.0l is great for the hd trucks and moderate towing, but if you want to tow heavy/work hard the dmax is king...

Obviously DMax is king...but its an extra 7k up front and another 30-50 cents a gallon depending on where you live. That being said...if you plan on towing quite often or just plain are a loaded SOB...get the DMax. For the rest of us not so rich folk, the 6.0 does the job. And with the right tune to get rid of GM's nannies, its mighty nice down low too.

I think the point is the trucks weight difference. The 2500HD needs the bigger engine to compensate for the extra ton...

if both tuned by diablew they will never race the same on and off the line...

I've Owend alot of trucks 01 Chevy, 04 Chevy (I didn't like so I traded it for 5.7 hemi) 07.5 d-max, 09 6.2 Denali , now I just bought 12 6.0 2500 Denali. There's a big difference in all of them. Nothing compares to the d-max. I would have to say that out my experience with them all the 5.3 is quicker than the 6.0 but the 5.3 is lighter obviously than 6.0 2500. that being said I own a case skid steer about 7000 lb w/ trailer 9000 I've pulled it with all of them the 5.3 just didn't have the balls to get up on step. The d-max I couldn't even tell it was there. 5.7 hemi not much better than the 5.3 the 6.2 Denali plenty of power the 6.0 no problem what so ever. So 5.3 quicker ya 6.0 fast enough plenty of power to do what you want..

Yep, its all about "pulling" power and ability. Trucks as a whole really aren't all that "fast" or "quick" compared to a half way decent car. When I drive my better half's WRX or the in-laws Dodge Challenger I am reminded of that. I love my 6.0, it does everything I ask it too with aplomb as a "Truck", and thats the way I like it.

sometimes yes, throw a 500hp efi tune at a stock duramax eat would eat those two cars you mentioned...my truck has a decent tune it will beat a brand new stock 5.3 no problem, even with my heavy tool box and 33's. but i get what you are saying. a truck doesnt stand a chance against a REAL car.

A year and a half on from my previous comments, I have done a lot more towing with my 3/4 ton with the 6.0. Half tons are great pick ups and handle light to moderate loads great.

Pulling heavy loads, however, there is no comparison to the torque and power band pulling a heavy load with the 6.0. Pulling an equipment trailer with an SUV on it, theres plenty of power. Pulling a 10k catering trailer, again plenty of power. The 6.0/4L80 is a stout engine/transmission combo and has plenty of power to get work done.

Oh totally I agree with you, I have seen some very fast diesels that were also very highly modified, I have ridden in a 1,000 horse Cummins powered custom truck. It was very impressive, though a bit over the top and really kind of useless. Scariest thing I have ridden in four wheel street vehicle wise though was a heavily modified Subaru STI. All wheel drive and 1500 HP. I have been around racing in one form or another since I was 12 years old. Dragsters, Funny Cars, Stock cars, vintage racers, Off Road racers, Hydro's too. Been on some wild rides but that little STI was just flat nuts. I don't know how to convey the acceleration that little tin box had. I guess my best analogy was "Superbike" type acceleration, just incredible. But I digress, put a enough power in something and you can make it go fast yes. You may not be able to stop it, [much like my 64 Oldsmobile, huge modified motor with drum brakes ha,ha.] or go around a corner, or make it last, but it can be done for sure. :)

My best friend has an 07 nnbs LMM with twin turbos, a whole list of other shit. Can crank the juice up to 650 RWHP on stock injectors!!! The thing is absolutely insane, in short distance boosted launches it will give a corvette a run for its money. Mustangs, challenger srt 8, camaros any stock modern muscle car doesn't stand a chance between city blocks at lights. The truck is unreal fast off the line. Never ran 1/4 mile with it, but it's in high 12's, low 13's with 35's on it...8000lbs truck LOL.
