Battery Change Out

I need to change out my battery on my 97 Z71, but have heard that I should plug in some sort of adapter into my cigarette lighter that has a 9V battery on it, to retain any memory. I've changed it out once before and didn't have any problems, but since then I've used the Hypertech tuner. Anybody got any thoughts on that?

Loss of battery power should not affect the Hypertech. Only the clock and radio presets.

you will be fine---changed my battery on my s-10 while it was hypertech programmed and nothing changed.

I just change out my battery 2 weeks ago. I was amazed that it did not affect the clock or the radio station pre-sets. I was prepared to reset everything.

I've seen those plugs for the cig lighter with the 9V batt. They're home-made. You take a cig lighter plug and wire in a 9V battery plug to keep the radio memory. Some cars do lose their memory when the battery is removed but I guess our trucks don't.

I think I remember seeing a battery in the radio while it was laying in pieces in front of me, don't remember though.
