there has been much discussion @ bobistheoilguy.com. There's no way in hell I'd personally run ANY oil reguardless of what it is (Amsoil/Mobil1) for that long. I change my own M1 at 2000 miles---BUT 2000 miles takes me about 4 months on a change.

 

3000 tops on my personal vehicles

5000 tops on the work vehicle (dino, 5k required by company)

Mobil has a good product however that little PF-59 only has so much

filtering capacity. Btw, my oil change light comes on at app. 3500 mile intervals.

We'll it'd be a no brainer to change your filter before 15k even if you don't do a full drain. I run my M1 5w 30 4k miles, change filters (Delco PF59) add a quart then fully drain at 8K miles. My oil light normally comes on around 5500 miles and I drive it like I stole it and frequently tow.

Forgive my enthusiasm, I would never wait 15k to change oil, but the fact that the industry is advancing to the point of having an oil that can last 15k is pretty impressive additive technology. If it's rated for 15k I will have no problem using it for the 5k intervals I change at (depending on the price). I also believe we will continue to see the oil filter size shrink as todays engine manufacturers continue to improve the machining and materials used in higher tech engines. There will be less and less particles being sucked in and pumped in at both ends to the point where, hopefully, the need for a filter will be minimal. Darn it, I picked up those rose colored glasses again by mistake.

Remember when Mobil 1 synthetic first came out? They claimed 25,000 mile oil change intervals. No-one believed them then either!!!

Not quite right.

 

The 15K mile oil is fully synthetic,it is M1 on steroids.

The 7500 mile oil is a synthetic blend

The 5K mile oil is a conventional.

I wonder what their reason is for going this route? Regular Mobil 1 is good for 15k. There are several on BITOG.com that have ran it that long or longer with oil analysis showing great results. My old welding instructor has been using it on his 78 F250 with one year oil changes and he currently has 358k on the truck. No problems there.
