Odometer

Hey All,

Have an 04 Silverado as seen below and I think the DIC is not doing the odometer correctly.

I have had it 9 months and it already says 23,700 miles on it.... I averaged it out and for that to be per day I would have had to drive 93 miles a day for that to happen. There is no way I drive 93 miles a day.....

What would make the odometer be off and what steps to take to fix it?

There can't be no way I've put that many miles on that new truck.

not to worry, if you buy one off ebay Just like yours swap it in ten minutes and start back at 0 miles... stay away from a dealer till your new mileage is higher then the last time you visited them....

(((really though I would talk to the dealer have them check things out, unless the earlier sounds good LoL)))

I've seen odometers adding mileage just sitting there idling. :banghead: Internal cluster problem. I think it would be pretty difficult to put on 23k miles in 9 months unless you do a LOT of driving.

Take it in ASAP, because you're probably going to have a hard time getting the dealer to believe you. Start with getting the current mileage documented. Then keep a REAL close eye on it. If you can go back in a day or two and show that you now have 2000 miles more, they may say, "Yeah, it does look like something's going on."

Of course, if you want to believe the vast majority here, the mileage is also stored in several secret locations and you have nothing to worry about. :D I wouldn't risk running of warranty based on mileage on THAT theory.

Well I've never seen it add mileage to it while its sitting still I just sometimes wonder if its the real mileage and is it possible the computer may give a different mileage than the display cluster?

I just can't see myself driving 93 miles a day everyday for 9 months - thats alittle rediculus - I mean I live in the middle of no where and my closest walmart is 20 miles away. I just don't see it. :banghead::D:tear:

:sigh::D:seeya::seeya:

do you have a gps (or are able to borry one)? that way you could check if it is off while driving. or check the mile markers on the highway?

course that wouldnt help if the cluster is adding miles randomly...

I think it almost has 520 hours on it or something like that its in that range give or take 10 hours :banghead:

I just don't want them to think I'm nuts - When I say I don't drive that much and they laugh at me

45.5 average mph sounds a bit steep to me unless you spend all your time on the interstate, or shut the engine off at every stop sign and drive through, and God forbid warming it up in the morning.

as of Feb 1, i am at:

117048 miles

3159.9 hours

37.07 avg

especially if you live in the middle of nowhere, the avg doesnt sound off at all.

unless the hours are off too?

Aw, Geez, you just had to throw that in, didn't you? :banghead:

I agree though, check it with a GPS logging miles, or a long interstate trip using the mile markers. I thought my wife was putting on a lot of miles on her new car when she was getting close to 20K a year! Average is around 12 to 15K per year, I think.

Unless someone else is driving your truck when you think it is parked, I would take a guess and say the odometer/hour meter is faulty. Take it in and have them check it against another truck, set trip to 0 on both, drive to the same destination and see what the diff is.

I get about 17 - 18 mph.... So you all think there is soemthing wrong with milesage thingy

I hope so cause 23 is just sounding way to much for 9 months of driving
