Software giant Microsoft has said it is recalling power chords on 14.1 million Xbox consoles worldwide. The firm said it was doing so out of concern for consumer safety, and the replacement chords are designed to protect consumers and consoles from electrical component failures.

Less than one in 10,000 consoles have been affectde by the failures, claimed Microsoft.

But 30 consoles caused minor injuries or minor property damage said Microsoft. Seven customers burnt their hand. In the other cases, there was damage from smoke or to carpets and/or "entertainment centres".

All regions except continental Europe require replacements for machines made before October 23rd 2003. In continental Europe, consoles made before January 13th 2004 need a replacement chord.

There's details of how to get your replacement power chord Xbox website.

It seems Microsoft cannot have even one product that runs the way it should - does "jack of all trades, master of none" come to mind????

They should stick to one thing and try to get that right, rather than try to strong-arm everyone else out of business by the strength of their marketing, and then leave us consumers with crappy products and services.

No, that doesn't come to mind. Dude, it's a f'n power cord. So what? It's not like it's a major component that's being recalled. At least M$ is doing something about it. Don't get me wrong, I know it's a major safety issue, but M$ probably isn't even the company that manufactured the power cables, so griping about M$ for it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, IMO.

Woo-hoooo... :chevy:

Hey, I didn't mean to offend anyone. If you've worked with MS the way I have, it's frustrating when you have Netscape, Lotus products, Novell and other operating systems that worked really well, and then they all get squeezed out of the game, and in place of them, you end up with MS products that are inferior to the original products, but because MS has bundled so many things together, everyone uses their products, and MS makes sure that these other better products are not compatible with theirs, so you really can't use them anymore. I'm not against new ideas and progress, don't get me wrong, but really, not one OS from MS (with the exception of XP - I'll give them that) has been reliable. And yes, these other companies should have had better marketing people and should have been more progressive, so why am I complaining? Because MS stuff bites, that's why, and we've become so accustomed to accepting it that way, that it's not a big deal anymore to most people. So what does a stupid power cord have to do with this? Absolutely nothing, but it just gives bitter people like me one more thing to gripe about, that's all. So, OK, call me a whiner, complainer, sore loser, MS hater... but this feels good.

OK, I feel better now - got that off my chest. I'll chill now - Thanks for the opportunity! :(

^^Na, man I agree that most M$ stuff bites. Yeah it sucks that we're forced to use Windows due to hardware and software compatiblities. Sorry for the previous post, I didn't mean to bark at you. :(

Hey COSilver, the: :( smiley....I don't know why, and it caused me some confusion when I first started posting...For some odd reason, around these parts...Basically means that the poster agrees with you.

As to your rant on MS goes...I partially agree, exept for your remarks about the marketing.

My first computer was a Texas Instruments TI-99 4/A, shortly followed by a Commodore 64, and while there was a geeky/cool factor about that...Most of the populace couldn't even learn to use Basic or DOS, so that stuff was destined for nerds to dabble with.

MS made a product that my mom could use, and that's the main reason why they dominated the market.

As to their continued dominance....Well...That's why they're constantly being sued.

All that^^ of course, is my opinion. And I'm looking forward to the day when my Xbox asplodes. :chevy:

Wingnut, thanks for the clarification on the :seeya: smiley.

Halen5150, no harm done, didn't take it personally, and I realized I probably came across a little to edgy myself :)

Snake Eyes, I guess I misunderstood your message. :)

Slammin, sorry about your XBox dude, hope they make it right - and that the fire didn't damage anything else!

OK, now let's all have a :chevy:

    • Curious, did anyone ever get a fix for the vibration reported here.   I have a 2024 Silverado with 6.6 duramax.   I’m noting the same vibration resonating up through the steering shaft into the steering wheel.    Best way to describe- like someone is tapping on the steering shaft/components and it’s resonating into the steering wheel.    thanks.
    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions?
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
