Radio removal

Hi all,

I just took possesion of a brand new 2005 2500hd. I want to pull the factory radio head unit and install an adapter for my XM receiver. Can anyone tell me if there is anything special I should watch out for? Also, does anyone know if the radio has a 9 or 12 pin plug. This radio has a single CD (no changer) and a cassette player. It is also RDS cabable (if that matters).

Thanks for the help.

your headunit has a 12 pin connector for the aux/slave devices and a 24 pin main connector. are you using the factory XM kit or an aftermarket?

The radio is very easy to remove, just pull off the dash bezel (no tools required) and take out the 3 screws on the radio brackets (7mm or 9/32" socket will work)

Thanks BB,

I'm using an aftermarket XM unit (Roady2) so all I need is another input.

Ed,

for most of those aftermarket input adapters to function, the headunit must have a factory slave device already connected to it like disc changer, rear seat entertainment, or XM.

Here is link to the needed input adapter:
