manual transmission fill plug what size is it?

what size is the fill plug on my 2000 sierra 5spd im sure i need to add fluid but i have nothing even close to being big enough to loosen the fill plug

I'm guessing you have the NV3500 5 speed

If you have trouble locating a 17mm allen socket, try a VW parts shop - one that caters to the old aircooled crowd. The VW transaxles use a 17mm fill/drain plug and this is a common tool. Usually pretty cheap.
